This is how the Alamo Drafthouse says 'Happy Halloween'. On Saturday night, Mondo Mystery Movie participants (around 700 movie fans) were loaded onto buses, taken to the creepily deserted Highland Mall, and treated to a screening of the zombie classic Dawn of the Dead that was attended by director George Romero himself (as well as about 200 lurching, awesome zombies).

Food Events: Cupcake Smackdown 2.0 This Saturday
Who makes the best cupcakes in Austin? The event was so popular it merited a round two, scheduled for this Saturday, August 21.
Preview: Apocalypse! at Salvage Vanguard Theater
Gnap! Theater Project's newest work, the improvised show Apocalypse!, opens this Friday night. Apocalypse! is billed as "an improvised play about the end of the world." The concept brings to mind films like The Road Warrior or 28 Days Later. Because the show is improvised, each night the rotating cast will create a new world at it's end. The Armageddon on any given night may be the result of zombies, mutants, something entirely different or all of the above. One can expect drama, action and, of course, comedy.
Zombie Girl: The Movie Opens at the Alamo Ritz This Weekend
Zombie Girl follows 12-year-old director Emily Hagins as she writes, shoots and produces a feature-length zombie movie called Pathogen. But as the production runs into roadblocks, and Emily’s relationship with her mother becomes increasingly strained, Zombie Girl quickly morphs from an oddball character study into a funny, weird and inspiring movie about creative energy, familial bonds and youthful determination.

Dismember the Alamo '08 Starts Tonight!
A few weeks ago, we told you about the second annual Dismember the Alamo Zombie Film Fest. But in case you forgot to mark your calendar, we'd like to remind you that it starts TONIGHT! And this year's lineup looks like a hell of a lot of fun. The fest kicks off with a screening of Bio Zombie, Wilson Yip's zom-com homage to Romero's Dawn of the Dead (at least in that it takes place in a mall, and features zombies). Perhaps more importantly, tonight's schedule also features a screening of Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2, widely considered to be one of the best zombie flicks ever. You know--it's the one where the zombie wrestles a shark! For real!
Zombie Shorts Contest!
Get excited--the second annual Dismember the Alamo zombie film fest is just around the corner! The lineup hasn't been announced yet, but the fest promises a healthy mix of new and old zombie flicks, as well as a zombie shorts competition. In fact, there's still time to submit an entry for the shorts contest. The rules are simple: your film must be under 10 minutes, and it must feature at least one zombie. Shorts will compete for cash prizes, as well as tons of DTA swag.
