Yeah Yeah Yeahs Replace Beasties in Chicago, Decider Runs Down Other ACL Options

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Replace Beasties in Chicago, Decider Runs Down Other ACL Options

There's plenty of speculation about who C3 will book to replace Beastie Boys, who canceled their remaining 2009 tour dates yesterday morning. The Beasties were also scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza, and have been replace there by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Since Lolla and ACL are both C3 Presents productions, it seems likely that ACL will also get YYYs in the open headliner slot. more ›

Beautiful weather, lots of good music and an Austinite on the ground with her camera: how much better could it get? Pooneh Ghana documented her trip to Coachella, and here's what she brought home. more ›

Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Hot Puppies

Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Hot Puppies

The BBC calls The Hot Puppies a "spiky girl-pop band hiding sharp talons and sardonic wit beneath their cool, Blondie-style new wave exterior." They have also won effusive praise from critics at The Guardian, who want The Hot Puppies to be "the next big thing." After six years together, the band signed to Fierce Panda and released their debut album Under The Crooked Moon in mid-2006. The confident and powerful Radio One Sessions tracks... more ›

Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Trucks

Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Trucks

Bellingham, WA's The Trucks carry on the loud-and-proud post-riot grrl tradition of acts like Peaches, Le Tigre, and The Gossip, playing guitarless, keyboard-driven pop-punk that'd be perfect for your little sister's sleepover if their hit single wasn't called "Titties." Maybe it is anyway. Depends on your sister. Anyhow we got to chat with singer/visual artist Marissa Moore, who also doesn't get why the SXSW schedule isn't up yet. Share a story about a visit... more ›

Music Notes: Goldspot, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Los Angeles indie pop/rock band Goldspot just announced a last-minute show at Maggie Mae's this Thursday Wednesday evening. Packed with bubbly melodies and near-skittish guitar hooks, their full-length debut, Tally Of The Yes Men, effuses the sort of buoyant charm that seems to come naturally to those dwelling oceanside. KCRW's Nic Harcourt (Morning Becomes Eclectic) called them his "favorite discovery of 2005." [Myspace] [Homepage] Goldspot Thursday, October 5th Wednesday, October 4th Maggie Mae's 9pm... more ›

Concert Update: Bitter Tea And A Wordless Chorus

Concert Update: Bitter Tea And A Wordless Chorus

Fans of the indie-rock will find much to like in the latest concert update. Flying V lovers My Morning Jacket, the willfully obtuse Fiery Furnaces, and alt.country godfather Jay Farrar have each been added to Austin's fall music schedule. As we've mentioned, the sheer volume of shows is unprecedented, so get out and enjoy the fact that every band you like is coming to town in the next two months. Thanks as always to... more ›

Fall Concert Preview: Excess And Overload

Fall Concert Preview: Excess And Overload

We'll get the bad news out of the way first: Junior Boys, Hot Chip, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have all slighted Austin on their fall tour schedules. So if you were hoping for one of these shows, start saving for a JetBlue flight. Thankfully, almost every other indie-Pitchfork-college rock band known to man will touch down in our town between now and Thanksgiving. There were a flurry of new show announcements over... more ›

Elsewhere in The Ist-a-verse

Elsewhere in The Ist-a-verse

The whole world is at your fingertips. Check it out... Shanghaiist probably knows a little more about China than the Chicago Sun-Times. Giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The city does too have a music scene. Don't even front like they don't. They also have Dorito bananas and white guys shopping for wives. What they don't have is any more tolerance for jaywalkers. Bostonist sees Boston and Somerville each whip out... more ›

Lineup Announced For That Other Festival in the Scorching Heat

Lineup Announced For That Other Festival in the Scorching Heat

Austin City Limits is pretty nifty, we'll admit. But let's face it: the lineup for Coachella, ACL's glammed-up West Coast sibling in the desiccated wastelands near Joshua Tree, has all but reigned supreme these last few years. And this year, they're at it again; earlier this week they announced the full roster for the two-day festival, to be headlined this year by Depeche Mode (huzzah!) and ... Tool (huh?). The entire lineup: Saturday, April... more ›

Austinist Interviews The Peels

The Peels are a rock band out of San Francisco, now under indie DIY darlings Dim Mak Records. Their debut LP "S/T", produced by the legendary John Goodmanson, was released back in February this year. Now on tour with The Raveonettes and Autolux, The Peels took time after their show last week at the Parish Room to sit down for a chat with Austinist. We spoke with lead singer Robyn Miller and bassist Joshua... more ›
