Billed as an “unromantic comedy,” Sorry, Thanks is a contemplative and heartfelt detour from standard romcom fare, a skillfully made ensemble piece that makes no excuses for screw-ups, but tells you it’s okay to love them anyway.

Austinist Show Preview + Album Capsule: Horse + Donkey
Local noise brokers Horse + Donkey dropped their eponymous full-length recently and this Saturday, The Hole In The Wall hosts an official CD release show to celebrate this fine collection of droning post-rock. Opener “At A Station” along with standouts “Dot Dot” and “Riddle” will be familiar to the band’s loyal fans from their live performances; the tracks blend surf rock and psychedelic guitars with wonderfully dark and echoing vocals to create a dreary haze of dissonance. It is often impossible to decipher the lyrics on Horse + Donkey but that only adds to the mystique of it all. “Things” seems to be about some impending doom, “Shoal Heirs” and “Amorous Mare” tell tales we’d love to hear with clarity, and good luck decoding the words and howls in “S.F. S.A.” or “Big End.”
Austinist Show Preview + Giveaway: Horse + Donkey + much, much more at Emo's Lounge
Some of Austin’s most active live acts take the stage at Emo’s on Thursday evening to bring an end to the venue’s Free Week. Horse + Donkey are riding high following the release of their impressive self-titled full-length. The album finally gives us locals a chance to enjoy the act’s reverb-heavy droning psychedelia at our pleasure, at home or in the car. Still, that’s no excuse to stop playing live, and the trio has been averaging a solid amount of gigs in town over the last few months. The explosive, vivid video for Horse + Donkey’s “Magic Horse” was directed by Wiley Wiggins and can be viewed here.

Music Mondays Presents We Were Never Here
Tonight, Alamo Music Mondays presents the US Premiere of We Were Never Here, a film about the German avant-rock band Mutter. Though the band has been around since the 80s, we have to admit that we don't know much about them—and though the Google-translated version of their Wikipedia page is hilarious, it isn't entirely informative. (Representative sentence: "Then with in the same year the published album main thing music disappointed the most incalculable all Diskurspop...
Box Issue #4 Released
Austin's high-brow erotica e-zine, Box Magazine, just launched issue #4. "Binge + Purge" contains a ton of tittilating text and other, well, things, which we're not gonna bother summarizing owing to its exhaustively comprehensive nature.
[sex toys, hot photos, and a pair of melon-sized testicles: box mag #4]
Along with the new issue, Box has also done a site redesign, incorporating a bunch of new features, among which are things like Wiley Wiggins' sex blog ("...Axillism is a sex act between a penis and an armpit. So my question is what position do you think would be best for my new fetish?"), a porn review blog ("Usually, porn movies are something my penis and I have a deep understanding about."), and outtakes from past photo shoots.
We should probably also mention that all of the links in this post are NSFW (not suitable for work).
