MA's Guster and Wild Sweet Orange will rock the walls of Stubb's Waller Creek on April 22 at an Earth Day celebration to benefit the Hill Country Conservancy. The conservancy focuses on keeping Texas' open spaces, uh, open, but specifically dotes on Barton Springs because of its relationship with our water supply.

After releasing a couple of stellar EPs, Wild Sweet Orange dropped its debut full-length We Have Cause To Be Uneasy late last month on Canvasback Music. The band recently performed on the Late Show with David Letterman on CBS while you can hear their thoughts on Fox’s American Idol series here. The Alabama outfit rolls into town this Sunday (Tickets) to wrap up our weekend with poignant ditties that highlight Preston Lovinggood’s songwriting skills, and crunching compositions that emphasize the group’s inherent talent. A couple of local bands, Electric Touch and Jets Under Fire, get things going at this inside show at Stubb’s; doors at 8 p.m. The Hush Sound headlines Antone’s on Sunday in support of its March ‘08 release Goodbye Blues.

Whether you agree or disagree with Austin’s “Live Music Capital of the World” claim, there is little doubt that our city hosts a plethora of quality shows every week and offers boundless options to its fine citizens on a daily basis. This week, pick from a number of choices to supplement your everyday rat race activities. On Tuesday, Matt Costa holds court at The Parish with his informal tales wrapped up in pop melodies and topped with sprinkles of piano and harmonica. Costa was once an avid skateboarder but a serious injury ended that calling a few years ago, allowing him to concentrate on his musical career instead. Unfamiliar Faces was released in January of this year on Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records. The soulful Americana flavor of The Delta Spirit precedes Costa. The act recently signed to Rounder Records, who plan to re-release Ode to Sunshine, the band's self-released album recorded at a friend’s cabin in Julian, San Diego.
