Whitman Album Release at the ND [Show Preview]

Indie rock trio Whitman write the kind of anthemic, straight-ahead rock and roll intended to inspire fist pumps and drunken sing-alongs en masse. Clean, driving guitars, rolling backbeats, insistent piano rhythms and detail-rich, narrative storytelling add up to create catchy power pop in the mold of The Attractions, Ryan Adams or the less experimental turns of The Replacements, a slice of musical history that seems to exist in a permanent 80s summer of the mind. The band's latest album The Monitor came out on XL Recordings this spring, which is described by Wikipedia as "a concept album loosely based on themes relating to the American Civil War."
