Seattlest has a talk with the photographer from last week's "Segway Mom" and then experiences some dissension in the ranks over the question of wine vs. beer. It's not West Side Story, but about as close as they'll get. They're also still waiting on some inbox relief after a spammer is arrested. As Chicagoist counts down the days to its third anniversary party, they found all-organic pizza to be underwhelming amidst the hoopla, tried...

Everyone's favorite neighborhood grocer is about to go through some changes. The Wheatsville Co-Op on Guadalupe is looking to expand their modest store after being open for over twenty years. Members fret not, this one isn't going to be like Whole Foods' massive growth spurt--although it won't be far off. Their website offers plans and pictures for the upcoming expansion project. We'll save you some time and run down the basics for you:

This morning around 4a.m., a woman was walking her dog when she discovered the body of 18-year old UT freshman Tyler Cross (pictured right). The Texan reports Cross fell from the fifth floor of a University Towers' dormitory balcony onto the sidewalk of West 24th Street.

The nasty gap in the Town Lake Hike-and-Bike Trail on either side of I-35 on the south side of the lake may finally be closed. The circle squared. The Odyssey completed. Just like we wanted! The Parks and Recreation Department and the Town Lake Trail Foundation have obtained a $250,000 pledge from Constellation Property Group, which is building the "Star Riverside" condos nearby. A suggestion: hit up Cypress Real Estate Advisors for another big...

City Council Members Leffingwell, Martinez and McCracken have written a letter to J. Willard Marriott, Jr. stating that "Las Manitas, Escuelita del Alma, and Tesoros are revered local institutions which have significant cultural and historic value to our community ... [l]osing them is simply a losing proposition for everyone involved." They note that the development as it is now envisioned would appear to require several approvals by the Austin City Council and ask Marriott...

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind. 'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance, well they're…no friends of mine. I say, we can go where we want to – a place where they will never find. And we can act like we come from out of this world – leave the real one far behind. And we can dance. And so can Blue Lapis Light....

According to the Statesman's Blotter (a cool feature over on their site) the Travis County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with TABC, set up a sting operation in hopes of busting minors. And for the first time in the history of said operations (a one year-old program), no minors were busted. Sheriff's department officials say this proves the stings are working to curb underage drinking. Sure it is. Whatever helps you eat doughnuts sleep at night. More likely, kids are just getting hip to the Sheriff's jive and going elsewhere. Hey, it's what we did as kids. (Of course, none of our statements are meant to condone underage drinking. And, in fact, we think underage binge drinking has become quite a scourge. Check out this 2002 program from the Diane Rehm show about college kids and booze if you don't believe us.)

Austin Earth Month continues this weekend with Austin Nature Day, a "celebration of the beauty, vitality, and diversity of natural resources that contribute to our high quality of life." All around town tomorrow, over twenty local eco-conscious and/or cultural organizations have set up various events -- and, holy crap, there's a lot going on! Some of the events that we think you outta check out include the Xeriscape Garden Tour (Umlauf Sculpture Garden, 3:30pm-4pm), Westside...

Cy, the one-eyed-kitten was sold to a museum that promotes the theory of creationism. The Lost World Museum opens later this year in Phoenix, Arizona and promises to house a regular freak show. French President Jacques Chirac was influenced by the protests of the young people across the country and has recalled his proposition for employment laws. In Canada, some bodies of suspected members of the Bandidos Biker Gang were found outside of Ontario....

Back in the day, rollerskating was the shit. Every Friday night involved some four-wheeled, toe-braking action to the sounds of ZZ Top, The Bangles, Pseudo Echo, [insert ubiquitous 80s country/western singer/band for “slow skate”] and The Cars. Young kids flocked to the rinks for a night of profiling, chili-dog eating, and hoping no one would see them fall on their ass. Mustachioed post-high school goons set up shop in the parking lot to blast...

You know the traditional action movie, where some tough guy gets beset by all sorts of problems, blows up a national monument, and then scores with a really hot woman as the city burns behind them? God, haven't we seen that enough times? We have. Trust us. We want a little bit more from our action movies now, like things getting blown up in obscure cities in Europe, and themes of unromantic love. Familial love. Love as redemption. Love as motivation for personal growth.

Residents of San Marcos have been instructed to boil their tap water before consuming it, according to the San Antonio Express News. (Warning: subsciption recquired)
