We hate it when things end. Seriously. We cry at funerals (end of life), weddings (end of freedom), heck we even cried at the end of the last Harry Potter book for no other reason that that it was all over. Needless to say, we are all sadfaced at the moment because our favorite excuse to sit on our rear ends all summer is coming to a close this week. Yep, that's right, the Paramount......

Starting today (actually, you are probably missing some of it right now, so hurry up and finish reading) The Queer Students Alliance of The University of Texas at Austin will be kicking off their sixth annual Pride Week. Until next Monday, October 16th, the QSA will be holding events from early in the morning til late in the evening--from rallies, conferences, workshops, movies and an AIDS walk at Waterloo Park. The theme for this year's......

In the spring, weddings and marriage-chat seem to spread through the air like avian flu. Sunday night, I witnessed a public proposal (for the record: accepted). When I went to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center on Saturday, one of my friends decreed the place an excellent wedding locale before we’d even picked up brochures. At work last week, I got stuck past my shift because some bride-to-be was just desperate for whimsical wedding favors.......

The critical and Oscar success of 'Brokeback Mountain', 'Capote', and 'Transamerica' gives Austinist hope for gay-themed films reaching mass audiences. In the midst of this great run comes 'Imagine Me And You', a rather transparent attempt to try the Hugh Grant London-style romantic comedy with a surprising gay twist. Suffice to say that writer/director Ol Parker has seriously misfired with this one. While any romantic comedy features its share of stock characters, silly miscommunications,......

A couple of weeks ago, we asked for advice on a cool wedding DJ, who wouldn't spin any of that crap music heard at your typical reception. You guys turned out to be as cool as we thought you were, and sent some recommendations our way. Now we share them with others who happen to have both good taste and an upcoming wedding. Some friends had a wedding where Karaoke Underground "DJ-ed" before the......

Most Austinites will know Owen Egerton from The Sinus Show. But Owen Egerton is also the guy behind those popular sing-a-longs at the Alamo Drafthouse, as well as a writer, musician ("My Sister's Thyroid" is one of his song titles), recent MFA graduate, and now a daddy. He's also active in the National Comedy Theatre of Austin and is even ordained to perform weddings. We think Owen is definitely a modern renaissance man. After......

Reader Kenny writes: Any chance somebody might do a roundup on cool wedding venues in austin? On the hunt and looking for resources... Ah, June. We’ve never personally tied the knot in Austin, but we found a few resources to help y’all do it right. First things first. Get your license. Here’s a great resource about that. Now where to get married? You could do the church thing in South Austin at Mercury Hall,......

Around 4:30 a.m. this morning, the Oasis restaurant caught fire. Reports say the restaurant, whose main draw was the porches that gave Austinites and tourists a spectacular view of the sunset, is destroyed. Reports have not yet indicated if the restaurant will be rebuilt (we're guessing so). There are no reports on injuries or what started the fire. We didn't care much for the food, but feel bad that this Austin landmark is gone.......
