Beasts With Hearts Of Gold is a beautiful little gem of a record. Jammed pack with twenty (yes, twenty) songs, it travels the distance between the beginnings of Guided by Voices and early Spoon with unpretentious ease. "Heart Poppers" is particularly Spoon-esque, David Jones' voice sounding so much like young Brit Daniel it's eerie.

What’s the Deal: Metal, metal, metal. With images of skeletons wielding machine guns and menacing weapons, this trio – Rob Evil, Bones and Michael Murder – play that old fashioned metal that anyone missing the days of true thrash metal should really dive into. It’s fast, steady and unrelenting. Barely understandable vocals – except “Satan”, “kill” and “ blood of the innocent” – rake over top of speedy beats, constant distortion and the occasional squealing solo. Their last show in Austin was canceled, but before that they played with Jay Reatard who brought the metal group out on tour with him.
