Let’s ignore, for a moment, the disconcerting image of middle-income men armed with quasi-lethal antipersonnel devices, sleeplessly cruising urban desert wastelands in over-powered and under-braked Japanese SUVs. Let us consider, for a moment, the intent....

If the closest you come to contemporary hip hop is dodging the Spiro's crowd on your way to Emo's, then we have news for you: there IS more out there. No, you need not subject yourself to the abrasive and, dare we say, bastardized sounds of Dirty South hip hop, nor need you dig up your old De La albums (though you should anyway) because tonight Talib Kweli is at Emo's to show you......

The Cribs Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever (Warner Bros) Yorkshire's Cribs are a three-piece outfit made up of three brothers, each equal parts befuddling and beguiling. On their major-label debut, the brothers Jarman find themselves channeling everyone from Malkmus to Johnson (that's Calvin), combining sharp-tongued irony with trademark British snarl, shining most when their catchy, sharp hooks let their claws out. The Cribs aren't necessarily doing anything new, but the finely polished pinnacle of......

Indie rock heroes Built to Spill released a fanfuckingtastic record back in April. Indie, of course, not referring to the band’s connection with some obscure label (they’ve been a part of the Warner Bros. empire since ’97), but to the noisy noodling guitars, the heady lyrics, the melodic/dissonant chords, and catchy songwriting that (arguably) began somewhere near Chapel Hill in the late 80s, spread to the northwest via Boise, and finally lost significance about......

While it arrives in Austin too late to capitalize on World Cup fever, the new documentary Once In A Lifetime tells a surprising and all but forgotten story. In the late 1970's, some brilliant businessmen sold the city of New York on soccer as a stadium event and planted the seed for a huge new pro sports league...only to watch their dream fall to pieces. The most entertaining thing here is to realize that......

Steve Carrell was funny. Geena Davis was actually pretty damn funny. Chris Rock was funny. Our comments while watching the Globes were funny. Dennis Quaid was not! The notorious (alleged) coke-head and booze-hound had the opportunity to present the vignette nominating Brokeback Mountain as best picture. Instead of being simple and to-the-point, Quaid decided he'd try a little shtick. After honoring the film, the seemingly drunk (or at least very nervous) Quaid said that......

Below is a list of the new albums released in recent weeks. You can get most at End of an Ear or Waterloo Records. SpotlightMusic From The O.C. Mix 5 - Soundtrack (Warner Bros) Fox’s The O.C. might only be in its third season, but they’ve somehow already released five accompanying soundtracks. Their latest, aptly titled Music From The O.C. Mix 5, is thus far the best in their ever-expanding collection of indie-rock showcases:......
