It was a night of dedications, sing-a-longs, and a bittersweet goodbyes. Local indie-pop heroes Voxtrot played their farewell show to a packed crowd of fans and friends last night at Emo's. Photos by Pooneh Ghana

For all you die-hard Voxtrot fans, we’re just repeating what you already know. But, for all those others, it is our unpleasant duty to inform you that the poppy Austin indie rock group is no more. And, unless you are planning on traveling to the Black Cat in Washington or the Bowery Ballroom in New York, their farewell show tonight at Emo’s with Cry Blook Apache and International Waters may be your last chance to catch the band live.

Preview: Voxtrot, Loyauté Soundsystem @ Beauty Bar [Friday]
When day one of the 2009 Austin City Limits Music Festival is done and dusted, wind down amidst the comforts of the Prototype Vintage Design furnished Beauty Bar. Yes, the sophisticated folks from the popular South Congress store are decking out the 7th St. hotspot on Friday night and it should make for a cozy and easy-on-the-eyes setting for you to share your Zilker Park stories. Your ears are probably going to be pleased as well -- Learning Secrets has assembled quite a line-up for this special evening. DJ sets from the LS duo of Ian Orth and Thomas-Austin and the not-so-secret crew known as Loyauté Soundsystem will follow performances by local bands Survive and Voxtrot. It should have you dancing your fatigue away well into Saturday’s a.m. hours. Check out LS’ video announcement here; RSVP here for $5 entry.
Preview: Emo's Last Night of Free Week
As we reflect on the fortune of free shows Transmission delivered to our doorstep this week, it’s with bittersweet symphony (bum bum bum, bum bum bum) that we part ways with Free Week. We are eternally grateful for the massive supply of great music and an excuse to party for seven days straight while never once worrying about having the cash for cover. But alas, there’s still a bit more to see! Saturday night includes many promising acts, but we especially recommend the lineup at Emo’s: DJ Remy Mac, The Black, International Waters and The Minotaurs.
Ask a Local: Jared Van Fleet, Sparrow House and Voxtrot
Today we're checking in with Jared Van Fleet, of Voxtrot and Sparrow House. Van Fleet's collaborative project with Ramesh Srivastava and others took a bit of a break in 2008, after spending almost all of 2007 recording and touring. He kept busy working on Sparrow House songs due for release in 2009 on Autobus, and lent his production skills to Bill Baird, the Black and Sara Beck (Pink Nasty), as well as the Parisian artist Mina Trindle.
Austinist Show Preview: Voxtrot, Yellow Fever, & Ringo Deathstar at Emo's
Voxtrot, Austin's own local-gone-national pop princes, is a name that seems like it's been wandering around the scene forever. So long, even, that it's pretty damn surprising that their debut album was released less than a year ago. But over these last few years, they've been through a lot: widespread hype, critical anticipation, stylistic maturation, and maybe even a little bit of disappointment. But that's not to say that the sky isn't still the ceiling for our boys, and, just as a reminder of how far they've come since their incredibly well-liked early EPs, two days after this show at Emo's Outside (Outside!), they'll be throwing down some powerful post-emo way out in some crazy place called Barcelona. Wherever that is.
