Music Preview: The Clientele and Vetiver Relax At The Mohawk
This evening's double bill at The Mohawk seems oddly appropriate for the gauzy and chilly late winter weather we've been experiencing of late. London's The Clientele have been practicing a particular and atmospheric brand of quiet, sad, and beautiful art-pop for nearly 20 years. Their extensive use of reverb and effortless sense of melody have made them a cult favorite since the 2000 release of classic Suburban Light. In recent years, the group's association with Merge Records has helped them find a larger American audience, as has their willingness to tour extensively. Anyone who loves the moody atmospherics of groups like The Church, Mazzy Star, or Felt will find much to enjoy here, as the tonality is quite similar.
