The vegan movement has grown by leaps and bounds. And forward-thinking, compassionate, and healthy individuals from all across our nation are working to spread the word on the benefits of the vegan lifestyle. For most of these apostles of animal rights, their goal is not to judge or to degrade the lifestyles of their meat-loving neighbor! It's simply to spread the word, and the love, of a kinder way of living and enjoying life. Austin is home to some of the most influential veg-heads in the states, and last week, Farm Sanctuary's co-founder Gene Baur got a chance to rediscover Austin, and its thriving vegan community.

Austin (Veggie) Bites: Clay Pit's New Menu Offerings
Clay Pit, the Indian food Valhalla on Guadalupe and 16th Street, has recently updated their menu, and all vegan items are now marked with a handy little "v" symbol, in addition to their substantial vegetarian offerings. While perhaps not the most authentic, their Indian dishes have nevertheless neatly filled a curry-shaped void in Austinites’ stomachs since 1998, and was called “one of the best Indian restaurants in the United States” by Bon Appetit magazine.

Crave's vegan and vegetarian-friendly menu features a large variety of Japanese cuisine (sushi, tempura, miso soup), Thai favorites (pad thai, curries), and pan-Asian stir-fries at reasonable prices.
