Photo by jetalone on flickrThe third Thursday of November (one week before Big American-Style Thanksgiving) marks Beaujolais Day - setting off a sort of Cannonball Run of wine, with distributors racing to get wildly celebrated bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau, the red wine made exclusively from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France, to market. We were busy drinking some middle-of-the-road Sauvignon Blanc last night or we would have totally reminded you yesterday. According......

Nine employees at Twin Liquors now face felony charges after allegedly stealing more than a quarter million dollars' worth of booze. According to TABC officials, the employees had been running a fairly large-scale bootlegging operation for the past two years. Liquor and beer would be lifted from Twin Liquor's warehouses on Seventh Street and Stassney Lane, and then re-sold elsewhere around town. Authorities are unclear where the booze ended up. "They could have been going......

With our wine loving in-laws in town for the month of July, there were plenty of opportunities to drink bargain wines. After all, when you're sitting on the back porch nightly with a glass or two of red each for four people, those $25 bottles just aren't a fiscally sound option. This led to the pleasant discovery that there are many great bottles at the $10 point on the shelves of Austin's wine sellers.......

We’re dying from the heat. No, seriously. Luckily, we recently ran into one of our favorite wine experts, Twin Liquors’ Tim Graham, who implored us not to forget to drink the white wine this summer. “Tim!” we screamed at him with weak, limp voices. “What should we drink to ease the pain of this summer ache?” Tim replied quickly, “Campustella Albarino from Spain. It’s not effervescent but it dances on the tongue.” We asked......

Our favorite days of the year are (in order) New Years Eve, Halloween and Christmas, but right below those is the annual French bacchanal known as Le Beaujolais Nouveau. More appropriately, Le Beaujolais Nouveau refers to the unaged wine produced from the Gamay grape in the Beaujolais region of France. Ready for consumption less than two months after the annual harvests, the Beaujolais are rushed to Paris on the third Thursdays of November for......

There are few things that go quite so well with art as wine and food - just ask the Italians! But if you, like us, don’t have the time and/or funds for a jaunt to Italy, then we suggest attending the 16th annual Austin Museum of Art food and wine tasting extravaganza, La Dolce Vita. Fifty Austin restaurants and caterers will be showcasing their finest culinary wares, including some of our favorites like Jeffrey’s,......
