Food: Grand Opening at Rio's Brazilian Cafe this Sunday

Generally speaking, a party thrown by Brazilians or graced by their attendance just shouldn't be missed. Bear that in mind this Sunday as Rio's Brazilian Cafe hosts its grand opening celebration from 5-10pm. Planted on the East side of town at 408 North Pleasant Valley Road, Rio's Brazilian specializes in Brazilian street food. It's run by Ben Googins and Elias Martins, partners who share a passion for the food and culture of Brazil; Ben spent several years living and teaching in Brazil, and Elias is a native of Rio de Janeiro.

A scant few years ago, the prospect of an Os Mutantes reunion seemed about as far-fetched as seeing Morrissey and Marr patch things up and hit the road, even in these reunion-crazed times. If Kurt Cobain’s public pleading to the Baptista brothers to reconvene Mutantes for a gig didn’t work, what would? Nevertheless, 3/5s of the São Paulo-based Tropicalia legends found enough common ground between them to reunite for a brief international tour in 2006, 34 years after the original lineup splintered off into their various solo careers. more ›
