For almost two decades, legendary jam band Phish made an annual tradition of throwing one of the best musical Halloween bashes in the land. The band went their separate ways at the dawn of the millennium, but former frontman Trey Anastasio carries on the tradition of bringing a spooky good time to his phans. While still heavily rooted in the rollicking rock and roll tradition, Anastasio’s band adds a bluesy feel not found in his previous projects.

Today's big news is the FunFunFun festival, but there are also several new shows in this edition of the concert update. Kasabian, Ben Folds, Mates Of State, and others have all announced Austin shows, and there are tons more on tap for late fall. Fans of the indie-rock will find much to like in the latest concert update. Flying V lovers My Morning Jacket, the willfully obtuse Fiery Furnaces, and alt.country godfather Jay Farrar have each been added to Austin's fall music schedule. As we've mentioned, the sheer volume of shows is unprecedented, so get out and enjoy the fact that every band you like is coming to town in the next two months. Thanks as always to...

Didn’t want to spend your hard-earned cash for ACL ducats this year? Or maybe you have to work, and can’t get away from that computer to which you’re chained. Whatever the case may be, if you aren’t heading down to Zilker Park this weekend, you can still catch several of the ACL performances broadcast live over the intranets. AT&T will be airing exclusive content at their Blue Room portal beginning tomorrow with the first...

As Elvis Costello might say, we just don't know where to begin. Even if you are skipping ACL, the fall is turning into a music wonderland. Acts of every genre and size are booking Austin's clubs up like there's no tomorrow, leaving music lovers with many questions on how to spend both time and cash this fall. Trust us, you can't see it all, so pick your favorites and buy tickets in advance to...

"Psychedelics are almost irrelevant in a town where you can wander in a casino any time in the day or night and witness the crucifixion of a gorilla.*" We know you people love your fests, and while ACL may be a tough bill to beat, sometimes it's nice to get out of town. The Vegoose Music Festival in Las Vegas combines gambling, strippers, soon-to-be divorced men, all night parties and rock n' roll into...

You may have heard that a certain filmmaker is in town for his own personal film fest. Well, he's also making national news, as Quentin Tarantino has reportedly agreed to come on board to direct the new biopic chronicling the life and times of Jimi Hendrix. The film, which has been stalled in development deals for what seems to be ages, has the approval of Hendrix's brother Leon and Jimi's estate. In ACL News...

Billboard online has reported that Tom Petty will be one of the headliners at this year's Austin City Limits Festival. The first leg of his summer tour will feature opening act Trey Anastasio and will be followed by a run of six shows that includes Pearl Jam as part of a double-bill. The second leg of the tour will feature the Allman Brothers band and the Dereck Trucks Band. The opening act for the...

Dust off Granny’s ganja goo-ball recipe. Take that patchwork spinner-dress out of moth balls. Start cleaning your bongs. And fire up the VW bus. Because it looks like the boys from Vermont are coming back for a small fall run in 2006. The quinetessential jam band from Vermont formed in the mid-80’s, and after almost 20 years of building a wildly devotional fan base from almost-yearly touring, the group disbanded last summer. Each member had been involved in various musical side projects and had lost the passion to continue to awe Phish fans . They said they didn’t want to be playing the same songs for the next 20 years, and creative differences had the led the band to a fork in the road. Trey Anastasio wanted to go his own way, while apaprently a couple other members, most notably bassist Mike Gordon, wanted to cotinue. Well, after less than two years apart, it seems the group has decided they miss each other and their music too much.

Apparently the folks at Superfly Productions overestimated the marketability of their wildly successful summer Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. After three years of producing the most economically prosperous music festival in America, Jonathan Mayers, producer of the Zooma Tour, felt that they had produced a synergy and a brand that would be able to draw fans from across the country to individual concerts. And thus was born The Zooma Tour. Apparently they thought wrong,...
