According to the Statesman's Blotter (a cool feature over on their site) the Travis County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with TABC, set up a sting operation in hopes of busting minors. And for the first time in the history of said operations (a one year-old program), no minors were busted. Sheriff's department officials say this proves the stings are working to curb underage drinking. Sure it is. Whatever helps you eat doughnuts sleep at night. More likely, kids are just getting hip to the Sheriff's jive and going elsewhere. Hey, it's what we did as kids. (Of course, none of our statements are meant to condone underage drinking. You might want to think twice before starting that ignition after tossing back a few at your holiday parties this season - the police department announced yesterday that they're increasing traffic enforcement efforts for the next few weeks as Austin prepares to celebrate the winter holidays. Specifically targeted are "drunken, aggressive and erratic drivers," who were largely responsible for last winter's increased traffic fatality count - 8 occured between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day....

The Travis County Wellness Committee, in association with the Austin Runners Club, is hosting the second annual Brown Santa 5K Run/Walk and Kids K. The Brown Santa races will be held at the Travis County Exposition Center and proceeds will benefit the Brown Santa program.
