Weekend Music Preview: Tiny Vipers at The Parish [Saturday]

This evening’s headliner Jesy Fortino, or Tiny Vipers as she prefers, hails from Seattle and has two full-lengths on Sub Pop Records under her belt. Life On Earth, her second LP (released last July), was produced here in Austin by Andrew Hernandez. An adept songwriter, Fortino complements her emotive lyricism with gentle guitar strums to conjure up an organic ambiance that is sure to captivate the audience. And although these absorbing soundscapes are soft and soothing for the large part, they do flare up at opportune moments to drive home her point. It’s all quite enthralling. Lose yourself in her haunting melodies, on us -- enter your information below for a chance to go to the show for free: more ›

Minus The Bear formed in 2001 and has since developed a knack for churning out experimental indie-rock enhanced by complex time signatures and abrupt rhythm changes, as well as occasional employment of jazz standards. Add to this Dave Knudson’s distinct two-handed tapping style... more ›

Austinist Interviews SXSW: Tiny Vipers

It would be hard to go wrong by attending Sub Pop's SXSW showcase on March 14th. Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Trucks

Bellingham, WA's The Trucks carry on the loud-and-proud post-riot grrl tradition of acts like Peaches, Le Tigre, and The Gossip, playing guitarless, keyboard-driven pop-punk that'd be perfect for your little sister's sleepover if their hit single wasn't called "Titties." Maybe it is anyway. Depends on your sister. Anyhow we got to chat with singer/visual artist Marissa Moore, who also doesn't get why the SXSW schedule isn't up yet. Share a story about a visit... more ›
