Tim Gunn is lovely. Even more so for being an out-of-sync gentleman in an industry full of people whose lives are like the Vietnam Memorial: flat, black surfaces inscribed with a casualty list. Never has the Macy’s courtyard, nestled between Popcornopolis and Oakley, had such fireside intimacy. Gunn stopped by while touring to promote Lucky Brand by doing a scaled down community theater version of a fashion show followed by a generously lengthy Q&A.

Project Runway All Stars Is Perhaps A Few Feet Short For Flight
Only in the world of reality television could the phrase "All Stars" mean "previous losers". The producers for Project Runway All Stars did a solid job of stitching together fan favorites with reliable basket cases like Austin Scarlett, who hails straight from Andy Warhol's island of lost toys. It's not the greatest designer hits of seasons passed where All Stars fails most, but in the awkward wreck of the catwalk judiciary.

It’s better to burn out than to fade away: Clap!Clap! final show this Saturday!
Image from Clap!Clap!’s MySpace Clap!Clap! final showSaturday, December 8Emos (603 Red River St)$5 | Doors 8 p.m. | Outside[info]Local act Clap!Clap! has furnished enough dance parties around town with their brand of energetic electro-pop to command endearment and respect alike. However, last month they surprised a good amount of us with news of their demise. Needless to say we were fairly intrigued about the reasons for this culmination and also their plans for the future....
Project Runway @ Moxie Continues
We haven't made it to Project Runway at Moxie and the Compound, yet, but we've heard it's fun. Last week's winner Malissa Long sent us a picture of her creation (see right); the challenge was to design a piece only using a white knit fabric. This week the challenge is to design a dress for the Shiki customer. The Moxie version of Project Runway is similar to the Bravo show, although there's a local twist...

Watching It, Watching Me: Summertime Views
[The following is an editorial column by contributor Alison Coffey and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Austinist staff. --The Editors] In my youth (also known as The 80's) summertime was not a prime time for television viewing. The Keatons and the Seavers were on vacation (hey--does anyone remember how Mike Seaver's best friend had the nickname Boner?) and unless you liked reruns of Good Times (which I did, actually) or watching...
Project Runway #1 In Our Hearts (and the rest of America)
Is it Heidi Klum's cute way of saying auf wiedersehen? Tim Gunn's adorable, yet stern mentoring? Or, perhaps it is the mix of personality disorders present among the designers in this most entertaining of shows. Whatever it is, it works. And it rules. Bravo execs should be getting raises anytime now because last Wednesday's episode of Project Runway was the #1 rated show in Bravo history. Take that Queer Eye. It was also, amazingly, the...
Watching It, Watching Me: I Heart Timothy
[The following is an editorial column by contributor Alison Coffey and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Austinist staff. --The Editors] I know I've told you before of my daughterly love for Project Runway's Tim Gunn (if I had a gay fashion designing New Yorker for a father instead of a golfing, loafer wearing retired midwestern school superintendent), but he never ceases to impress me with his infinte wisdom and his stern...
Watching It, Watching Me: Beyond Thunderdome!
[The following is an editorial column by contributor Alison Coffey and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Austinist staff. --The Editors] If you're like me, you spent the better part of the holidays away from the television, especially if you were at someone else's house and they happen to watch a lot of football. I don't watch football. Or basketball. Or anything with a lot of throwing and catching of balls. I...
