Once in a while, we like to take some time to introduce you to bands -- both local otherwise -- that we think you'd enjoy. Le Diamont Brut aims to showcase those MySpace gems we hope to see shine. Recommend your local suggestions by emailing music@austinist.com. THOR HARRIS What’s the Deal: It’s hard to resist reviewing an artist named Thor, as in super-brutal, Norse god with a head full of long locks and a giant...

Health Alliance for Austin Musicians Needs You, Today
The Health Alliance For Austin Musicians (or HAAM) provides local artists with low-cost health care and other related services. This year’s HAAM Benefit Day is here (today), and the organization is presenting numerous shows all over town this evening, along with a Telethon on ME Television. One can offer their assistance in funds by donating online as well. The HAAM Benefit Day is presented with support from a number of entities, including Whole Foods...
Python Soars into Taco Bell in Failed Bid for Freedom
Police are on the lookout for three sneaky pranksters who tossed a 3-foot-long python into a Round Rock Taco Bell last Sunday night.
Daily Juice To Open Second Location
Unless you frequent the Hike and Bike Trail or attend Austin High School, you may not have noticed the recent construction of a lime green wall and several over-sized pieces of fruit on the southwest corner of Veterans Drive and Lake Austin Boulevard. These new additions to a popular West Austin corner, already host to Magnolia Cafe, Thundercloud Subs and Deep Eddy Cabaret, are attributed to the good people at Daily Juice down on...
Zagat's Says We Like Eating Out. Har Har Har.
Zagat's 2007 America's Top Restaurants Survey is out and although the setup on this one begs for an immediate rimshot, it's true - we love eating out. In fact, only Houston residents eat out with more frequency *snicker* than Austinites. Hungry Houstonians are eating out an average of 4.2 meals per week while residents of Austin and Dallas/Ft. Worth eat out an average of 4 times per week. Trailing in weekly eating-out outings are...

I Pity the Fool Who Can’t Find the Nearest Starbucks
Tired of bumping around town in your luxury ride, trying desperately to find the closest Rudy’s barbeque or Thundercloud Subs and having to listen to that generic female voice on your GPS? Don’t you wish you could have Burt Reynolds or Mr. T give you directions with the requisite sass? Yea, us too. Well, the wait is over, apparently. Navtones car navigation system produced by Los Angeles-based Wanderlust Media and digital map and location content provider Tele Atlas have combined to bring you celebrity-voiced navigation systems. Single celebrity voices will cost about $10 to download online, while unique character-themed voices — think of a generic surfer dude, or a cowboy — will cost about $5 each.
Brazilians Do it Better
We say to ourselves, we say, selves, time for some Brazilian food. Because we are hungry and we've seen way too much of Thundercloud Subs. Not to mention Italian, Chinese, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Selves, we say, let's go out to eat and eat well; let's go to Sao Paulo's. Plus, we hear they have good fancy drinks. São Paulo's used to be SamPaio's. So recently, in fact, that the old name...
As If We Needed an Excuse to Eat There More Often
We like to think of ourselves as sandwich connoisseurs. Imagine our sheer delight when we heard that our favorite local sandwich artists, ThunderCloud Subs, are having a celebration for their 30th year in business and they're making us feel like it's our birthday. Beginning on Monday, April 4th, 2005 and continuing until the end of the month, ThunderCloud will be offering a different sandwich each day at its original 1975 price. We'll see you at the 12th St. location on Tuesday, April 12th for the $0.95 egg salad sandwich. Because the only thing better than a good sandwich is a good deal.
