Take a break from your generic rock 'n pop this week and see the world through a martini glass. A Pink Martini glass, that is! Pink Martini was founded by Thomas M. Lauderdale (piano and artistic director) and currently boasts a double digit line-up. Incorporating various styles and spanning many genres, the act’s eclectic, exotic compositions can be found on three albums: 1997’s debut full-length Sympathique, Hang on Little Tomato (2004), and last year’s Hey Eugene! China Forbes’ impressive vocals neatly nestle upon the band’s concoctions that range from classically influenced pieces to diverse world music, and from soft jazzy numbers to picture yourself in another place and time soundtracks. Forbes keeps things fresh by singing in a few different languages while the ensemble’s astute musicianship impeccably complements their innovative arrangements....
