Iron & Wine at the Paramount [Show Preview]

Iron & Wine at the Paramount [Show Preview]

From the outset, Iron & Wine was painted into a corner. Sam Beam adopted that moniker and released The Creek Drank The Cradle in 2002, an album that prompted a wholesale renewal of interest in creaky, bedroom folk. But hushed acoustic music can only take you so far; Beam became the leader of a sound that seemed like a passing niche at best. However, as the decade’s unfolded, Beam has built Iron & Wine into a fascinating musical unit, capable of traveling wherever his restless creativity takes him. more ›

Preview: Joan Baez [Tonight at the Paramount]

For such an iconic folk veteran as Joan Baez, it is refreshing that her last decade of work does not rehash the first. No longer a pristine soprano touting traditional numbers and topical Dylan, Baez has found a new home in more crimson, robust modern folk-tales from the likes of Tom Waits and Steve Earle. The latter produced Baez’s most recent album, Day After Tomorrow, which posits her as a still masterful interpreter. more ›

Give Edwards Aquifer a Hug – Go See The Unforeseen Tonight!

There will always be chatter about Austin's changing landscape, much as there will always be supporters for both developers and the environment. We want the privilege of taking a dip in a glistening spring-fed pool, but we also want to have a robust economy that allows us to continue working and living in this city. Some would argue that the two desires aren't mutually exclusive, but we all know that it's a sticky subject.... more ›

Not-So-Buried Treasure: Paramount Theatre Poster Sale

Not-So-Buried Treasure: Paramount Theatre Poster Sale

A gagillion cities have performance spaces named The Paramount Theatre: Oakland, Charlottesville, Seattle, hell, even Shreveport had a theatre named the Paramount at one point. But ours is the only one that is hosting its first EVER Poster Sale and Silent Auction this Saturday! Harumph! After its renovation in the mid 70’s, the Paramount began squirreling away classic movie and theatre posters—as well as signed memorabilia from performers such as BB King, Ravi Shankar, and... more ›
