In a week positively spattered with less-than-fun news, some good news lives between the headlines. Old school Austin beer fans cried a collective, "Booo!" when it was announced that the Ginger Man's space was slated for demolition to make room for -- you guessed it -- a brand new high rise! Now those same fans can let loose a collective, "Yay!" or "Yee-haw!" or whatever feels right, as the Ginger Man has found a new home at 301 Lavaca St., just a beer-coaster's throw from their original location. The June 2007 issue of Beer Advocate Magazine lists Austin as one of "Nine Great Beer Towns You Didn't Know Were Great Beer Towns" (pp. 22-29). The article lists Austin among other underappreciated beer towns such as Eugene, Oregon and Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic.
