For the newbies to the Shonen Knife world out there, here's a little background to the legends: three women from Osaka have been playing clean, energetic, pop-punk about things like jelly beans and barbecues since 1981. Yeah, 1981. And they're still good. And they still like their job. And they, somehow, look more like they may have been born in 1981, rather than that being the time they started playing music together. And, in a couple nice bits of trivia, they opened for Nirvana on a UK tour back in '91, and had one of their songs on Beavis and Butthead. And when they played Fun Fest a while back, it was super-awesome-time, and at a joint like Red 7, one can only imagine what fun will be had. more ›

What’s the Deal: Not too sure where these guys have been, and why they’ve evaded our radar until now, but one thing’s for sure, now that they’re on, we’re not pulling them off until we’ve had our fill, which could be a while. They’re a pop rock fivesome from Reading, England who just recently brought their catchy, jangled, kinetic sound to bear on the US with recent performances at SXSW and CMJ. SureFire takes on responsibilities such as booking, publicity, and marketing for Austin acts with The Soldier Thread and The Mercers being just two of the bands on its roster. The Antone’s showcases are meant to bring a new set of local bands to the legendary venue -- according to SureFire’s Director of Media Relations, Stephen Tatton, “Antone's is really an Austin landmark, and I think that if we can do something there that helps everyone involved, then we've done our part.” more ›

Sure the shenanigans on 6th St. is always stirring but keeping within the cozy confines of the campus area is arguably safer and largely less expensive.
