Having directed some of the most tear duct-taxing movies in recent memory (Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark), as well as some exhaustively think-y, Brechtian pieces (Dogville, Manderlay) director Lars von Trier would now like to make you laugh. Or would he? It's just sort of hard to tell in his latest film, The Boss of it All. There are some things that do not bode well for comedy. For instance, an affiliation with......

Zombie is the watchword this time around. Not only is Rob Zombie unmasking his take on 1978’s slasher classic Halloween this weekend, the Alamo Drafthouse has also managed to round up a herd of zombie sheep from New Zealand for your viewing (really resisting the urge to say ewe-ing) pleasure. If you could care less about the grisly fate Rob Zombie doles out to lustful babysitters and the thought of zombie sheep does nothing......

The Hold Steady have been holding, er, steady in the limelight since 2004, picking up a Village Voice cover here and a best album of the year there (2006: The Onion’s A.V. Club), and just generally best-ing all over the place: they were Blender’s 2006 Band of the Year and made it to Rolling Stone’s annual album ranker at number 8. Critical acclaim blah blah blah. The big hit from the big album Boys......

For those of you who weren't able to attend the ridiculously fun sold-out premiere of Grindhouse at the Paramount last Wednesday, this weekend offers a couple fun treats. Thanks to the intercession of Quentin Tarantino himself, the Alamo South Lamar has been given permission to hold a late-night screening of the film this Thursday April 5th at 11pm. Tickets are going to go fast, so if you're planning on getting 'em, you should probably do......

Badly Drawn Boy - Born In The UK (Astralwerks): If Talking Heads were last year's band to emulate, The Boss is certainly the sound of 2006. After seeing a great Springsteen record from The Hold Steady and a suspect one from The Killers, we now find Brit Damon Gough wrapping himself in the English flag and turning up the shiny, Human Touch-style production. Unfortunately, Badly Drawn Boy's main charm were his lo-fi early songs......

Last night’s Tapes ‘n Tapes show was pretty boss, even though Bruce Springsteen never showed, which wasn’t a surprise, really, since he was never even rumored to show up, anyway. Is it wrong to secretly wish that The Boss might drop by for a song or two at some random venue? No, it’s not. [Ed. Note -- where are we going with this?] Regardless, the show was great. All three bands -- Cold War......

"Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack..." The sports gods are smiling on us today. As we wrap up March Madness tonight with the men's basketball championship, we also celebrate the unofficial national holiday known as Opening Day for Major League Baseball. We Seamheads are in wide-eyed excitement in anticipation of six months of the best sport in the world. Lo siento, futbol. And we are even more excited than usual, as our beloved......
