This year marks the third Texas Biennial, and the independent survey of contemporary art from all around the state has adopted a new structure that builds upon previous events. For the 2009 event, organizers are once again planning a group exhibition but have added four more focused solo shows that were given to one artist from each of the four corners of Texas. Additionally, the Texas Biennial is collaborating with Austin's Art in Public Places to install temporary outdoor projects in a handful of spaces around town.

Every two years, the Texas Biennial independent art survey has brought an expansive look at contemporary art from around the state to galleries and museums in Austin.

An art extravaganza along the vein of E.A.S.T., the Texas Biennial returns to Austin tomorrow, kicking off a month and a half's worth of nifty art-related events at the Dougherty Arts Center, Bolm Studios, Okay Mountain and Site 1808. The rain has come to wash away all the sins of SXSW, and believe us, there was a lot of sin. Amazingly, it also appears to have washed away most of the live music -- looking at the music listings for this week, we see almost nothing but DJs and karaoke. Where have all the rockers gone?
