Here in Austin we're no strangers to celebrity sightings—because of the city's reputation as being a laid-back oasis for special people trying to escape the spotlight, it's not uncommon to walk down South Congress and see any number of famous faces. So we didn't feel faint at all when Ryan Gosling arrived... right? Well, maybe we aren't immune to the charms of #QuietRyan, especially when he's paired up with bands like The Black Lips.

Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Unforeseen Director Laura Dunn
One of the films we're most excited about seeing at this year's South By Southwest Film Festival is Laura Dunn's The Unforeseen, a documentary look at the controversy surrounding Austin's real estate development and its impact on the Edwards Aquifer and on Barton Springs. Co-executive-produced by Terrence Malik and Robert Redford (who reportedly learned to swim at Barton Springs), the film explores the unseen relationships between our natural environment and our urge to destroy it....
Feature CD Review: Explosions In The Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
Tonight, Texas legends Explosions in the Sky play to a sold-out audience at Emo's, supporting their new album, All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone. Its a curious thing, reviewing a new Explosions In the Sky album in their hometown. Daunting, like penning a critical appraisal of Jesus' triumphal entry on Palm Sunday ("I'll say it here: Hallelujah is the new Hosanna"). Sure, even here in ATX, they have their detractors, but they're generally...

There’s plenty of stuff going on around town this weekend, but perhaps you can find the time to slip into a cool, dark theatre and enjoy one of this week’s new movie releases. *The New World Another take on the story of Pocahontas, this time by director Terrence Malick.
