The Austin Public Library Friends Foundation - also known as the desperately-in-need-of-one-more-vowel acronym APLFF - is presenting the Austin Teen Book Festival on October 1st at the Palmer Events Center. The event runs from 10am to 5pm, and will feature author panels, a keynote speech from Scott Westerfeld, and many opportunities to purchase books from (and have them signed by) authors.

Smart Chicks Kickin' It Tonight at BookPeople
If you think that all Young Adult fiction is just an edgy girl with an edgy girl name (Clary, Asilinn, Ever) that has a power/latent power (seeing faeries, reading auras, or something to be revealed in book 3 of the series) who meets a dangerous, tall/dark/handsome boy and makes unending pop culture references, well, you might be right. But if you didn't even know that much and had to have your friend Brittany break it down for you (like we did), then you might want to get over to BookPeople tonight to learn a little something from six of the bestselling authors in the genre.
Open House and Art Show: PCC's Downtown Clinic for Young Adults
Austin's People's Community Clinic was founded in 1970 and is one of the longest running independent primary care clinics in the country. Their innovative programs include a Primary Care Clinic for Teens and Young Adults which is located downtown at the American YouthWorks charter school. Tonight, the clinic is hosting an open house and art show which will feature health and wellness themed photography shot by area teens. The event is open to the public and PCC staff will be on hand to discuss services at their young adult clinic.
