Snoop Dogg Arrested in West Texas for What Else: Weed

Snoop Dogg (aka Calvin Broadus, Jr.) was arrested at the West Texas Border Patrol checkpoint for having .13 pounds of marijuana in his tour bus, reports The Texas Tribune. He was given a citation after his arrest by Hudspeth County sheriff’s deputies. CNN reports that Broadus has a prescription for medical marijuana in his home state of California. You're probably reminded of Snoop's notable collaboration with Willie Nelson, "My Medicine", and it's a funny story: Willie was arrested in late 2010 at the same place with 6 ounces of weed. more ›

Giveaway: Snoop Dogg @ Stubb's [Tuesday]

The one and only Snoop Dogg coasts into Austin on Tuesday along with reggae stalwart Stephen Marley as a part of the Blazed & Confused 2009 Summer Tour. Based on their fairly distinct musical styles, this might seem to be an odd bill but really, the cheeky tour title is all you need to read to comprehend the reasoning behind this pairing. Snoop also appeared on the Marley number “Traffic Main Answer” in 2007. The song was a remix of “The Traffic Jam,” from Marley’s debut Mind Control which took home the “Best Reggae Album” award at the 2007 Grammys. more ›

Snapshots: Snoop Dogg Goes 187 on the Backyard

The smell of weed hung in the air like a promise on the sweltering Saturday night at the Backyard as fans prepared their minds for the Doggfather, Snoop Dee-oh-double-Gee. Fresh off a run in with Dallas area police that resulted in the arrest of two passengers on his tour bus, Snoop Dogg performed with 311 and Fiction Plane as part of the Unity Tour 2008 at the Backyard. Taking the stage to the melodramatic strains of Verdi's "Requiem" with a T.O. jersey (blue, of course) and gripping a jewel encrusted mic, Snoop proceeded to bang out a set of classics including such party fav's as "Gin and Juice", "Nuthin' but a G Thang", and "Murder was the Case". With the disclaimer that he wasn't an R&B singer he also performed tracks off his latest album "Ego Trippin'", including the YouTube favorite "Sensual Seduction". more ›

Austinist Book Review: I am an idiot by Craig McCullough

Austinist Book Review: I am an idiot by Craig McCullough

The generous excitement and anticipation that met the release of 2001’s The Wash was well warranted. A cameo by Eminem as “the crazy, homicidal white guy” was just the glistening cherry on top of a large, delicious sundae of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s combined raw talent, served in a sparkling, crystal bowl of DJ Pooh's writing and directing skills. It seemed an infallible recipe for success. In the end, the quality of the film's... more ›

Austin Film Festival Welcomes The Doggfather

Apparently Snoop Dogg has grown a little tired of just rolling down the street smokin’ indo, sippin’ on gin & juice. So he decided to follow in the footsteps of fellow hip-hoptrepreneur Ice Cube and get himself in the movie game.
