This Saturday, the Association of Moving Image Archivists is inviting the public to see a restored screening of David O. Selznick’s Nothing Sacred, a screwball comedy from 1937 starring Carole Lombard and Fredric March, at the Paramount, Austin’s only movie theater that was around to show it the first time.

Despite what Mountain Dew commercials may have taught you, “extreme” is not a way of life, and if it were, it would have very little to do with jumping out of airplanes strapped to a snowboard or whatever. We know this because here in Austin, “extreme” is something we all enjoy on occasion. Tuesday night, you can get your extreme slasher movie fix with a couple of classic films that pushed the “horror/gore” envelope, AND you can even talk with the guy who created them. Join director William Lustig as he screens the 1980 classic Maniac and 1990’s Maniac Cop 2.
Austin Comic Con Presents: Alien Vs. Ninja
If you loved Predator but thought the effects were too realistic, were annoyed by the lack of violence in Aliens, and wish more movies had tough guys in Tron helmets, then this over-the-top action fest might be just what you need after an evening of wandering Sixth Street sampling the wares at the local taverns.
SXSW Interactive Weekly Roundup [SXSW]
- Prolific blogger Robert Scoble is leaving his current job with FastCompany, and may announce his newest venture at SXSW. Scoble joined FastCompany about a year ago and has been running their FastCompany.tv site. He plans to continue writing a column for FastCompany magazine, but will not do video for the site.
- Monday, March 16 looks to be the big party night for Interactive. Festival organizer Hugh Forrest reports there are more than 20 official parties and get-togethers scheduled for that evening, including the annual Nuclear Taco feat, 20 x 2, Plutopia, and the Great British Booze-Up.
- If you don't have a Gold badge, but still want to see some movies, there are several screenings that are open to Interactive badgeholders, including Ondi Timoner's We Live In Public to Gary Hustwit's Objectified.
Alamo Biker Movie Classics: They're No Angels
This Saturday and Sunday, in honor of the huge motorcycle rally just outside of town, the Alamo Ritz is dusting off a couple of drive-in classics about real bikers—complete with leather, bandanas, and names like Jaw-bone and Knifer.
