News 8 Austin reports that the Austin Independent School District was among the EPA's Top 25 Partners of their Green Power Partnership, based on annual green energy expenditures. Other Austin-based organizations and companies on the list include Whole Foods Market (#2) and, somewhat ironically, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). According to the EPA, fully 100% of Whole Foods Market's energy is green, from such varied resources as biomass, geothermal, small-hydro, solar, and wind-power. All told, the top 25 purchases account for almost seventy five percent of total green power usage in our country, or roughly 3.6 million megawatt-hours -- enough, News 8 says, to power over 150,000 homes a year.

The MLS Austin Cup will feature our neighbors to the east, Houston 1836, versus Real Salt Lake (undoubtedly the two worst major league sports franchise names in the country).

Thousands of Hurricane Katrina's refugees will be bused to Houston and sheltered at the Astrodome. The news was announced this morning by Rusty Cornelius, administrative coordinator for the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
