It was a week of bizarre, embarassing headlines at DCist. The trial of the local administrative law judge who sued his cleaners for $54 million over a pair of missing pants left everyone shaking their heads. Then the capital city was nearly brought to its knees, twice, by poop. Finally D.C. contemplated taking Vermont's place as a state and marveled at the GOP lessons learned from the "Macaca Moment." Due to some sad shootings in......

We first fell for Chef David Lebovitz's sweet masterpieces during a Central Market cooking class, but his talent is no secret. More than 12 years at the famed Chez Panisse and his passion for sharing his food philosophies regarding seasonal, sustainable farm-fresh foods in print have garnered him recognition from publications including Bon Appétit, Food and Wine and the New York Times, and he was named one of the "Top Five Pastry Chefs in the......

The final guest speaker in KLRU's "Spark" Engaging Speaker Series is novelist Anne Lamott, whose brutally honest but altogether hilarious stories are rooted in heavy and sometimes dark themes, like alcoholism, faith, and Republicanism. "The very first thing I tell my new students on the first day of a workshop is that good writing is about telling the truth," explains Lamott in Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. "We are a species......

BlogBurst streams syndicated content to mainstream media from over 2,800 blogs. In addition to agreeing to carry BlogBurst’s contents, Reuters made a financial investment in Pluck. The deal allows Reuters to use BlogBurst’s content alongside its stories, which will then get picked up by thousands of......

This has been a rough week for your -ist pals, though you wouldn't know it from the great posts all over the network. Plagued with server problems, our tech team (led by the great Neil Epstein) toiled around the clock to solve the glitches as they arose. Seriously, we've said, typed, and thought the phrase "server problems" more in the past week than we have for the last 35 years combined. Why not say it......

Stranded somewhere between Hollywood blockbuster and political-minded home movie, Cavite is nothing if not an unusual filmgoing experience. Conceived and produced entirely by no-budget veterans Neill Dela Llana and Ian Gamazon, the story concerns an aimless Filipino-American (and lapsed Muslim), played by Gamazon, who becomes embroiled in a nasty kidnapping scheme when he returns to the Philippines for his father's funeral. As Gamazon wanders the devastated town of Cavite, taking orders via cell phone......

UPDATE: Tim Goodman, at the San Francisco Chronicle says,"The funniest show on television is all but dead." Come on. How could a show with a character named "Bob Loblaw" (played by the irrepressible Scott Baio) die? ! We were walking on clouds a few months ago, when Fox announced it was renewing "Arrested Development," the funniest show since...ever. Last season, AD was scheduled on Sundays, hoping to net some of the Simpsons audience, but......
