Even if you’ve never physically been there, you probably have fond memories of the Days Inn just off I-35 in Hillsboro, TX. Used by Wes Anderson in his debut feature Bottle Rocket, this simple motel provided the perfect hiding spot for three of the most lovable characters ever to be on the run from Johnny Law.

Indie Picks: At The Movies This Weekend
One week after debuting in New York and Los Angeles, Austin is one of just a handful of markets that The Tree Of Life is expanding to in its second weekend. This makes sense because director Terrence Malick calls Austin home these days and the movie was mostly shot around our area (mostly in Smithville, but Bastrop and Austin too). Last weekend's release in just four theaters broke a box-office record for distributor Fox Searchlight, averaging $88,080 per screen.
Alamo Drafthouse presents the Texas Monthly Rolling Roadshow (The Best Texas Films Ever)
It was probably tough to do (yeah, Texas-dwellers are a proud bunch), but a group of experts has narrowed down the ten best films made in the Lone Star State. The list they came up with has inspired the Alamo Drafthouse 2011 Rolling Roadshow, and these beloved depictions of all things dusty, lonesome and wild will be screened in various locations around the state during June and July.
Rolling Roadshow Preview: Bicycle Thieves
Bicycles, Italian food, Austin spring weather, classic film, and a good cause -- these are the ingredients to the Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow event this Saturday at 8 PM, and tickets are still available.
Tickets On Sale For Metropolis Screening At Seaholm
The Alamo Drafthouse has been busy preparing special Rolling Roadshow screenings all across the country this summer, but we get an impressive screening of our own next month.
The Unforeseen DVD Release Party, Tonight, Springs-Side
Laura Dunn's award-winning documentary The Unforeseen is about real estate, wild nature, Austin living, and the American Dream. The film follows developer Gary Bradley's plan to make Hill Country subdivisions outta nothin', which was first thwarted by environmentalist concern for the swimming hole we all know and love, then finally abetted by the non-Springs-caring zeitgeist during the reign of George W.
Roll Out: The Road Warrior in the Alamo Parking Lot
If you’re still decompressing from Burning Man and want to get your money’s worth out of that leather vest and chaps outfit you’ve only worn once, perhaps you ought to head on down to the Alamo South Lamar -- this Friday they’re putting the “roll” in “Rolling Roadshow” with a screening of The Road Warrior. In the parking lot. 'Cause that’s the way Mad Max would have wanted it.
More than Meets the Eye:Transformers: The Movie in the Park
It’s a typical Austin summer. It’s 105 degrees. The idea of stepping outside doesn’t exactly make you jump up and down with excitement. It would certainly take something special to get you out of doors. Something…unique. Unusual. Right? Well, how’s this--Transformers: The Movie outside Central Market on North Lamar Wednesday at dusk. We’re not talking about that Michael Bay seizure-inducing debacle (though we did enjoy watching Robosaurus chewing up cars at the Alamo). We’re talking about the 1986 animated adventure that only a robot-disguised-as-a-car/plane/tape deck/dinosaur-loving kid could love.
Outdoor Summer Movies: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Wednesday nights can be tough. It’s the middle of the week, you’re not quite over the hump, and there’s nothing to do—nothing on television (“So You Think You Can Dance?” Come on!),and you’ve got to get up early tomorrow anyway, so how to pass the evening? How about a magical journey back to one of the most unique movies ever made (and later, less uniquely, re-made). We’re talking, of course, about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Your good friends at the Alamo and 101X present a special screening in the lawn of Central Market tonight.

Godfather of Gore Coming to Austin This Weekend!
Herschell Gordon Lewis is a living legend. With several gallons of red-tinted Kaopectate, a bag of butcher shop leftovers, and a knack for circus-style hucksterism, Lewis literally invented the North American gore film in the early 60s, turning the exploitation genre (and arguably cinema itself) on its ear.

Waterloo Park Goes Spooky
Aqua Teen Hungerforce is one of our favorite late-night TV shows. Cartoon Network's trippy and witty antics of fast food products living in the suburbs of New Jersey has been entertaining inebriated viewers since Adult Swim's debut. One of the signature artists in Adult Swim's motley crew of hip-hop contributers is DJ Spooky, who penned theme songs and more for these cult cartoon favorites. Hailing from Washington D.C. and armed with a degree in...
