On Wednesday, the folks at ACL TV announced four tapings for 2012 - Radiohead, The Shins, Rodrigo y Gabriela and C.U.B.A., and The Civil Wars. Exciting news, especially given that many of you would like to see Radiohead but weren't quick enough/monied enough when their show on March 7th was announced. We suppose after booking "The American Radiohead," KLRU decided go for the original edition. As with any big name artist playing in Austin anywhere near spring break, the Radiohead dates do add a bit of intrigue to the SXSW speculations that have started ramping up as of late. Though the music portion of the festival doesn't start until the 13th, interactive seems as logical a place as any for Yorke & Co. to turn up - and that starts on the 9th, just two days after the show at the Erwin Center. Who knows, maybe they'll skip the big spectacle altogether and DJ Occupy Austin instead.

Tango and Thrash: Rodrigo y Gabriela Tuesday Night at Stubb's
Their self titled album entered the Irish Albums Chart at #1. It includes covers of Zeppelin’s "Stairway to Heaven" and Metallica's "Orion". Rodrigo y Gabriela also cite Metallica Megadeth, Slayer, Testament and Overkill as influences. Their recent release, 11:11, is a tribute to the pair’s idols: Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Astor Piazzolla, father of nuevo tango, and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell are referenced among others. If you had as much fun reading Astor Piazzolla’s name alongside Dimebag Darrell’s as we did writing it, you owe it to yourself to check out Rodrigo y Gabriela.
Austinist Show Giveaway: Rodrigo y Gabriela at La Zona Rosa
Austinist is pleased to bring you the chance to win a pair of tickets to Saturday evening’s sold out Rodrigo y Gabriela show at La Zona Rosa. Astute guitarists both, Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero spent some time plying their trade in a metal band (Tierra Acida) in Mexico before striking the right chords under their current moniker. The duo’s discography consists of Foc (2001), re-Foc (2003), Live: Manchester and Dublin (2004), and 2006’s self-titled effort; their instrumental takes on Metallica’s “Orion” and Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” are already semi-cult classics.

Conjuring some of the most beloved singers of our centuries, you'll hear a little Buck Owens, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra and lots of Roy Orbison in his finely trained pipes. Please email us if you make out with that new someone to any of these songs. We'll buy you a beer next time we see you out, 'cause that's awesome. Raul Malo Latest Release:...
