There are still six weeks left in the NBA season, but a lot is on the line tonight in San Antonio. The Spurs (44-12 on the season) play the Mavericks (45-11) this evening, and the winner walks away with the Western Conference lead and a likely season series tiebreaker.

Spurs Crush Bobcats and Hornets, But Bigger Threats Loom
Tuesday night marked the halfway point of the NBA season, and our (nearly) local team marked the occasion by absolutely obliterating the Charlotte Bobcats 104-76. It doesn't look so bad on paper, but the Spurs were winning so handily that they played their bench for nearly the entire second half. Even Spurs 12th man (and Napoleon Dynamite lookalike) Sean Marks had 9 points. It looked like a bad high school game.
It’s All About Collecting Jewelry
According to the San Antonio-Express News, Robert Horry has agreed, in principle, to re-sign with the World Champion San Antonio Spurs for three more years, with the third year being an option year for the team. Players can not officially sign contracts until the July 22 free agent signing period begins, but Horry’s agent, Robert Barr, is confident his client will be returning to the river city to chase his seventh championship. The Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat had both expressed interest in signing the legendary playoff performer, but Horry says he recognized the best opportunity to win more jewelry was with Tim Duncan and Co.
Robert Horry Does Not Play Golf
Robert Horry has done the truly amazing once again. No, we are not talking about his unbelievable second half/overtime performance of last night. It is much greater than that. The Fresh Prince of the NBA has somehow made us feel that the last 12 years are all happening simultaneously. Every June we turn on the NBA Playoffs and see Big Shot Bob doing the unthinkable, yet somehow expected, extricating his teams from the jaws of defeat. Last night, after sitting by as an observer while his team got hammered in games three and four of the NBA Finals, Horry decided to take matters into his own hands. Instead of passing up shots, he took them. And he made them, with alarming consistency. And when he was not banging down triples, he was reliving the days of his youth, flying through the paint and extending his lanky 6’10” frame to dunk right on top of the unsuspecting Pistons. Year in and year out Big Shot Bob steps it up in crunch time. We have followed Horry’s career since we sat courtside in Houston and watched him help Hakeem bring the city of Houston its first professional sports championships. And ever since, it seems like every time we turn on the tv, there he is. Whether it be in Rockets' red, Laker purple and gold or the black and white of the Spurs, Horry has found a way to keep playing basketball deep into Spring while other players make tee times.
Horry Story
A little something to whet your appetite for Game 4: Austin-based writer Felix Gillette just put up a story about San Antonio Spur Robert Horry on Slate.com, arguing that Horry's contributions are overvalued because no one takes enough notice of him to care when he misses shots. Now that Gillette mentions it, we realize that the only opinion we really have about Robert Horry is that he can really handle the HDTV treatment. We'll try to keep an eye on Horry this evening.
