The art house, indie-rappers have been stirring a buzz since 2007 with their performance art turns dance party mash-up--fusing punk, hip-hop, and electro-pop in a style akin to Cool Kids and Spank Rock , while noted influences include Sir-Mix-A-Lot, Slick Rick and the Sex Pistols. DJ Spooky is hitting Austin hard this weekend, with a show at the Mohawk on Friday and an appearance at the Alamo Ritz on Sunday in support of his film Rebirth of a Nation. Spooky will personally introduce his remix of D.W. Griffith's super-racist epic Birth of a Nation (a film which was based on a super-racist book—Thomas Dixon's The Clansman—which tells the story of the "heroic" rise of the KKK). more ›
