It’s no secret that we love the Red River District here at Austinist so we want to get the word out on this City of Austin Waller Creek District Survey. It’s a bit long so bear with it but definitely participate if you want your voice heard for plans that include an area which has become a beloved and enduring segment of downtown Austin. An industrial crane toppled this morning in the 900 block of Red River Street. No one was hurt when the crane fell, police said. Red River Street between 9th and 10th was shut for about two hours but reopened shortly after 11 a.m. The site under construction is near the Sheraton Hotel and is a four-story apartment building. For the first time in its two-decades-plus history, SXSW is getting an official break from the City of Austin, after the city council last Thursday approved over $90,000 in fee waivers for this year's festival.
