A 1992 painting by Lucian Freud sold for approximately $11.5 million dollars (7.8 million Euros) at a Christie's auction this week. This sale broke the record price for a work by a living European artist. /// Well-hung: After an unsuccessful attempt to enter the current U.S. Presidential race, everyone's favorite pseudo-archconservative pundit, Stephen Colbert, got his portrait hung in the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery last week. The portrait is dangling in an "appropriate place" - between the public bathrooms near the exhibit of American Presidents. The "showing" is temporary and will last for only 6 weeks. /// "Beirut" - a play depicting a dystopian American future in the midst of a destructive plague - ends its current run at The Vortex Repertory Theatre this Sunday. The play has a long history with The Vortex, originally showing in the early 90s and attracting strong critical acclaim....

Whatever today's American twentysomethings want to be called, or whatever marketing agencies want to call them, the simple fact remains that any generation is a collection of individuals. Today Random House releases Twentysomething Essays by Twentysomething Writers. Although this book can't hope to define those who have been stamped X, Y, whatever, the collection is a bold reminder that this generation is extremely diverse and very capable. The Austin Center for FEMA Disaster Relief closed yesterday The New Pantheon shortlist nominees have been announced, and they are: Animal Collective, Antony and the Johnsons, Fiona Apple, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Kings of Leon, M.I.A., and Sufjan Stevens So there's evidently a species of rare African clawed frogs that, when injected with urine from a pregnant woman, will ovulate. There's also a story about how they're dying......
