Denizens of Beerland will see an eclectic mix of free-spirited punk dressed up in various musical guises tonight. Headlining are local "insurgent country" group Black Eyed Vermillion, who swirl together elements of bluegrass, folk, metal and grindcore into a rage-fueled, hellishly fun attack. It's a dark, dirty sound, punctuated by frontman Gary Lindsey's smoker-for-life vocals and primal screams.
Black Eyed Vermillion, Viva Le Vox, Izzy Cox and more at Beerland
Bad Blood, Real Live Tigers at Cheer Up Charlie's [Show Preview]
Tonight, east side hangout Cheer Up Charlie's has a triple serving of psychedelic folk to go along with coconut snacks and kombucha on tap.
Shawn David McMillen, Ralph White and more at Carousel Lounge [Show Preview]
Tonight, the Carousel Lounge hosts two legendary Texas misfits, tried and true cartographers of our state's peculiarly alluring brand of psychedelic folk.
Ember Schrag, more at COTFG Residency Tonight [Show Preview]
While the adventurous folks at the Church of the Friendly Ghost usually plot their musical upheavals with the Salvage Vanguard Theater as their setting, on occasion they'll take their performances elsewhere. Such is the case tonight, where the Church will be working with the Art Seen Alliance to bring new music to the United States Art Authority.
Pastiche: Yank Radio WFMU Visits Austin
World-famous radio station WFMU made a special appearance in Austin this past Monday when the weekly show Sound and Safe with Trent roadtripped its way into a south Austin back yard. WFMU has a long history of creatively unhinged musical programs, beginning its broadcasts in 1958 and more lately enlisting the DJ talents of notables including Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum, Matador records main man Gerard Cosloy, author Irwin Chusid, etc.

The Clientele! Saturday! Emo's!
If you spend your Sundays reading French surrealist poetry, or if you’re just a fan of beautifully-breathy, sometimes-sanguine pop songs; then, tickets to The Clientele show are probably already being used as a bookmark in your copy of Fantomas (the book, not the band). Touring off their latest album, God Save The Clientele, this UK art-pop foursome will be will be playing a host of new tracks much sunnier than their last three releases....
Austinist Interviews The Clientele
If we had to describe London's The Clientele in one word, it would be "dreamy." Their gentle, sad, and beautiful songs give life a Sunday morning's full of blurry edges and recollections when they're playing. The band have struck a more upbeat note on new album God Save The Clientele, but it's still a matter of degrees, as the signature sounds of the group remain intact. These songs are still made for headphones, long...

Emo's Cancels Shows Tonight, Guilty Dave Goes Missing
We've just received word that Emo's has decided to cancel tonight's shows because of the unwavering ice storm. After two days of closure, we'd hoped to sled downtown and catch The Politics, She, Sir and Haunting Oboe inside the club proper and double-back to the lounge to attempt a glimpse of A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Weird Weeds and Ralph White, but alas. We're crossing our fingers that things start getting back to normal...
A Hawk and a Hacksaw and a Cool Show
This show has been canceled due to the on-going ice storm. -ed. Emo's Lounge, in its relative infancy, has already come into its own as a indie-rock venue unafraid of breaking the mold to host more diverse acts. We've seen some great shows, drank our share of reasonably priced drinks, and used the rather odd restrooms, thus far being more than satisfied with the place. Tonight will be no different, with a great lineup...
