Vote Here For Your Favorite Rachael Ray Band Anagram [@SXSWist Contest]

Earlier today, we ran a contest on our @sxswist account for a few pairs of priority access badges to Rachael Ray's Day Party. Participants were asked to come up with creative anagrams using the names of bands who'll be playing at the show—the resulting entries, as one might imagine, were amazing. more ›

Austinist Show Preview: Super Furry Animals at Emo's

They drink Brains, they support Cardiff City FC, and they don’t give a fuck. Best of all, the Super Furry Animals churn out off-kilter psychedelic pop at a prolific rate. Despite having put out eight stellar full-lengths in fifteen years (a couple of those accompanied by simultaneous DVD releases as well), the act is still somewhat under-appreciated, especially outside their home island. Their talent is boundless, their music all over the place yet melodious, and their shows are often enhanced with video medleys as the backdrop, including the clips of that adorable Golden Retriever that accompany, well, "Golden Retriever." more ›

But that's just too bad. Because, see, here in the Ist-A-Verse, we do things ahead of time. It might be December 26 for you, but that's what you get for not checking your Favorite Local Blog on Christmas Eve. Austinist is... more ›

True Culinary Stories From Around Town: Cantina Laredo, Sicola's, Central Market

What’s the best thing about Cantina Laredo, the new corporate crapulence located on the back end of the 2nd Street District? Leaving it, steaming mad, after being told the waiter couldn’t close out a bar tab after waiting 45 minutes for a table; waiting 20 minutes at the bar, without any service, while trying to close that same bar tab; being told by the helpless hostess to try again later, because they’re "really slammed";... more ›

Are you the next Food Network star? (We're not.)

This is a post from our new contributor, Elizabeth... We love our Food Network (mostly for Rachael Ray, Alton Brown and Paula Deen, not so much for Giada). We enjoyed watching their search for "The Next Food Network Star" earlier this year, and were happy when Dan and Steve won. Did you miss out last time? Don't fret, because they are now accepting applications and videos for another round. We would love for a... more ›

Hey, You, Food Network Fans!

Austinist has received an anonymous tip that Rachael Ray of 30 Minutes Meals with Rachael Ray and $40 a Day is coming back to Austin for some chow and she'll be dining at Santa Rita Tex Mex Cantina on Thursday around 2pm. Okay, the anonymous tipper is an Austinist contributor who works there. We've been inspired by the recent disclosure of Deep Throat's identity. more ›
