Pink Dome, a political blog that has followed the hijinks of the Texas Legislature for some three years now, has closed down.

It's that time of year again, Austin. Although it seems like it happens about three times a year, the Austin Chronicle is conducting its annual Best Of Austin poll. While we obviously have certain favorites (Laguna Gloria, Curra's, El Chile, Mi Madre's, Eastside Cafe, Vespaio, the Backyard, the Parish, Continental Club, Hotel San Jose, DJ Prince Klassen, the Draugh Horse, Gingerman, Lovejoy's, Flipnotics, Casino El Camino, Club DeVille, the Off Center, KUT, KLRU, Quorum...

We don't know how any of you can possibly think about drinking after last week, but these two reasons are as good as any: Keep Austin Blue, founded from the remnants of Kerry supporters back in 2004 and whose mission is to "celebrate the fact that we live in a cool, blue oasis in a desert of red," is hosting their monthly social hour over at Mother Egan's Irish Pub. For those of you who are interested in politics but tired of ‘fair and balanced,’ Austin blog Pink Dome has just what you are looking for. The uber-snarky site takes a look at the goings-on in that family that is more dysfunctional than yours: The Texas Legislature. The writers take their rapier wit and slice lawmakers (generally those of the Republican persuasion) to pieces, usually with hilarious results. The writers post anonymously, but if you look hard you can spot them around downtown: just look for dry martinis and listen for F-bombs. You can also now find a link to their site on our sidebar. Keep it up, Pink Dome. And In blogging, like in politics, if you scratch our back, we'll scratch yours.
