Monofonus Press IF06 Release Show Tonight [Over the Hill, Pillow Queens and More]
Artistic entities like Monofonus Press are like that little extra mint on the pillow of Austin that makes life here that much sweeter. They put out records by artists like Over the Hill, The Golden Boys and Pillow Queens, but they’re a lot more than a record label. Monofonus press also works with writers and visual artists, which they often pair with the records they release for the well-rounded, indie artistic overload that is the IF Series. The Austin-based label + multimedia organization was born and has developed in a very organic way. They started with the intention of putting together like-minded, talented artists to collaborate and produce multi-media excursions, but what they created was a community of interlocking art forms each of which works to further the other. The Press is always evolving, and you can expect that they’ll keep churning out releases as long as the thriving Austin art scene keeps an eye fixed and an ear perked.
Pastiche: Yank Radio WFMU Visits Austin
World-famous radio station WFMU made a special appearance in Austin this past Monday when the weekly show Sound and Safe with Trent roadtripped its way into a south Austin back yard. WFMU has a long history of creatively unhinged musical programs, beginning its broadcasts in 1958 and more lately enlisting the DJ talents of notables including Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Mangum, Matador records main man Gerard Cosloy, author Irwin Chusid, etc.
Monofonus Press and Domy Books Present: a Reading by John Wesley Coleman, More
Our new East Austin arthouse/bookstore neighbor, Domy Books, is linking up with Monofonus Press for an evening of the visual and written arts. As you may or may not know, Monofonus is a new-ish multimedia imprint with the big goal of pairing new writing, music and the visual arts into some pretty neat packages. Past releases in their “If” series have included the writing and music of Monofonus co-founder Morgan Coy and his band Over the Hill, and future projects will include releases by Diagonals, The Pillow Queens, and other music, visual art, fiction and more.
