Review: Improv For Evil and Token Boy at Out Of Bounds [Comedy]

The Out of Bounds Comedy Festival started their second night off strong with local group Improv For Evil, who regularly perform at the Hideout Theater, and LA-based funny ladies Token Boy (with Austin-based comic Jon Bolden), who kicked off Thursday’s events at the Salvage Vanguard’s Apple Stage. The space, set for one of the Vanguard’s current productions, turned into a playground for the performers, who had fun exploring and incorporating the ladders and platforms into scenes - and experimenting with facepaint, soundtracks and group photos. more ›

Preview and Interview: Kevin McDonald's Hammy and the Kids at Out Of Bounds [Comedy]

Kevin McDonald headlines this year's Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, with his one-man show, Hammy and The Kids. In the show, McDonald explores his relationship with his alcoholic father and with his influential sketch comedy comedy troupe/television show, The Kids in the Hall. After touring in 2000 and again in 2008, their new television show Death Comes to Town premiered earlier this year in Canada. Austinist caught up to talk to McDonald about his show, wherein he discusses the difficulties he faced with his father and with the Kids, especially during the process of making the troupe's feature film, Brain Candy. McDonald told Austinist about the origins of his show, checking out some music in Austin, and why he's funnier to rape than Bruce McCulloch. more ›

Out Of Bounds Festival Schedule Released [Improv]

For the second year in a row, the Out Of Bounds Improv Festival has doubled in size—from a little over a hundred performers in 2008 to 500 this year, including The Kids In The Hall's Kevin McDonald and NPR's Will Durst. And if you've been wondering where and when you were going to be able to see all of them, we've got the full schedule available now. Venues include improv mainstay theaters The Hideout, The Salvage Vanguard Theater, and Coldtowne Theater, as well as The Velveeta Room and ND at 501 Studios.
