After serving buckets of fried chicken goodness to many a happy festival attendee at this year’s Austin City Limits Festival, Lucy’s Fried Chicken, the highly anticipated new venture from Olivia Restaurant owner and Chef James Holmes, opened Friday, December 16 in 78704.
Food + Drink: Lucy's Fried Chicken Opens in South Austin
James Holmes of Olivia to Open Lucy's Fried Chicken on South Congress
James Holmes, the man behind fine dining restaurant Olivia's, is arguably one of Austin's favorite chefs, and his fried chicken is certainly one of Austin's favorite dishes. For the time being, you can only get your hands on his tasty, fried breasts and thighs during Olivia's weekend brunch, in the food court at ACL, or at Olivia's Fried Chicken Revival parties during SXSW. But starting later this year, Austinites can get a taste of Holmes' famous fried fowl at a new, casual dining restaurant he's planning -- Lucy's Fried Chicken.
June issue of Food & Wine features Farmhouse Delivery and Olivia
In honor of both Olivia's and Farmhouse Delivery's appearance in the June issue of Food & Wine magazine, Olivia's executive chef, James Holmes, is going to whip up some farm-fresh recipes at his latest installment of Farmhouse Delivery Happy Hour this Thursday.
Food: Olivia Hosts An All-Local Pork, Beer, and Veggie Feast On 7/1
We love it when a plan comes together. Austin's culinary rise is happening in large part due to the committed individuals (farmers, chefs, and brewers) that devote their time and vocation to learning, growing, crafting, and selling their favorite things to the foodies of our town. Next Thursday, three of Austin's best craftsmen join forces in a casual yet well-planned manner to offer a farm-to-table taste of what is happening with Austin's local artisan food and drink.
Slow Food Happy Hour At Olivia On Thursday
The Slow Food movement is somewhat self-explanatory: a move away from America's predominant fast food culture. The organization supports local products, cooking, and the relationships that can be forged between farmers, cooks, restaurants, and consumers. To help spread the gospel in a relaxed format, Slow Food is sponsoring an ongoing series of happy hours at some of Austin's best restaurants. On Thursday from 5-7pm, Slow Food will be at Olivia on South Lamar, with drink specials on wine from distributor Pioneer Wine Company and a special menu of appetizers from Olivia chef James Holmes. Olivia will donate a percentage of sales from the event to Slow Food, and everyone will eat, drink, and eat lovely local food while complaining about that terrible new KFC Double Down, which should be a great time. To attend, RSVP to karlal@slowfoodaustin.com, as space is limited.
Austin's Olivia Among Bon Appetit's Top 10 Best New Restaurants in America
Olivia, the upscale eatery on South Lamar that, in true South Austin fashion, sits next to a former porno mag shop and a taxidermy store, has been ranked as one of the Top 10 Best New Restaurants in America by Bon Appetit magazine.
Austin Bites: Olivia
The concept of "local food treated well" in restaurants certainly isn't new; Alice Waters pioneered it with Chez Panisse in the 1970s. But the trend has picked up a lot of steam in recent years, with the increasing focus on locally-grown organic food. The latest Austin entrant in this genre is Olivia, which arrives under the guidance of executive chef and owner James Holmes and chef de cuisine Morgan Angelone, formerly of Asti. Joining the ranks of Uchi and Wink, Olivia is a welcome new part of Austin's increasingly cosmopolitan dining scene.
