Andy Langer is Austin's nearly ubiquitous multimedia music journalist. In the past, he's worked for both The Austin Chronicle and KUT. He now hosts music news segments on News 8 Austin, writes a column for Esquire magazine, and appears on both KSGR and KROX radio on Thursday mornings. Now, after twelve years of (also) hosting 101X's Sunday new music program The Next Big Thing, Langer is migrating to a prime weekday evening spot at KGSR. His show will air Monday-Friday from 6 to 10pm, immediately following Jody Denberg's drive-time broadcast. Though KSGR's format is pretty flexible for AAA, it's a big change for the guy who's been playing lots of loud indie, Britrock, electronica, and lo-fi material at KROX. We spoke with Langer yesterday about the changes to his radio job, and he had a lot to tell us...

Earlier today, FactoryPeople made the stunning announcement that it will be closing its doors for good on July 15th. The website will continue to operate, along with several temporary "pop-up" stores placed in key cities around the country. The South Congress shop, which launched three and a half years ago, quickly established itself as world-class lifestyle store, garnering national recognition through various "Top Boutique" lists published by Daily News Record, GQ, Seventeen, and Lucky.......

The BBC calls The Hot Puppies a "spiky girl-pop band hiding sharp talons and sardonic wit beneath their cool, Blondie-style new wave exterior." They have also won effusive praise from critics at The Guardian, who want The Hot Puppies to be "the next big thing." After six years together, the band signed to Fierce Panda and released their debut album Under The Crooked Moon in mid-2006. The confident and powerful Radio One Sessions tracks......

There are several Welsh acts playing this year's SXSW, but none are newer to Texas than The Gentle Good. Essentially a one-man folk music project, Cardiff's Gareth Bonello has been playing a quietly captivating mix of English, Welsh, and Spanish folk to drunken (his words, not ours) Welsh audiences for several years. Bonello has already released an EP and is currently recording his first full-length album. He recently chatted with us about cowboy boots,......

Yes, the holidays are here. Not only does this mean Christmas-themed beers and colder weather, but it also heralds the ubiquitous radio station holiday concert. Tonight, it's 101X's turn, as they bring a triple bill of artists to the intimate room at Antone's. Headlining is New Jersey's Pete Yorn, a guy who obviously listens to lots of earnest stuff like Bruce Springsteen. Luckily for Pete, Bruce is this year's band to emulate, so songs......

This has been a banner year for Headlights, the three piece indie-poppers responsible for last August's Kill Them With Kindness, an album that still resides in several Austinist CD players (not to mention Itunes playlists). In a year when we've heard a freakish amount of great albums, theirs has still managed to stand out, filling our ears with beautiful, driving gems. Coming off of a wickedly grueling 72-date tour, they're gonna be in town......

Okay, kids, here’s the scoop. There once was a rock band from England. They had a drummer who liked to dress up as a Nazi for kicks, an under-appreciated bassist who was the silent backbone of the band, a lead singer who fancied himself an actor – and wasn’t bad, so long as his character was deaf, dumb and blind – and a hyperactive guitarist who was once a suspected of involvement in a......

Combining the admittedly disparate ideas that Austin is both the Live Music Capital of the World and a burgeoning mecca for fashion and style, two locals are embarking on a bold new venture this summer: they're opening up a brand-new music venue ... that also happens to be a barbershop. Birds will reside at 2110 South Lamar, just southwest of Oltorf and a few blocks away from the newest Alamo Drafthouse. They liken the salon,......
