It's the last night before ACL thunders into town, bringing with it rafts of concert-goers and record execs. Whether you're partaking of the madness or not, there are plenty of pre- and post-festival shows worth attending (maybe you heard that some band called The Strokes played last night?) There will be plenty of good music around town tonight, but perhaps the best bill is at La Zona Rosa, where Neon Indian and Prefuse 73 will play, with Miniature Tigers to open.

Neon Indian - Show Preview & Giveaway
Last year we were a bit blindsided by the masterful Psychic Chasms - Neon Indian's debut album and one of our favorites by 2009's end. A dance record that also embodies the best of bedroom recording and sample-based experimentation, we were lucky enough to witness Psychic Chasms in the flesh at a few live shows last year, including Fun Fun Fun Fest.
Neon Indian @ Daytrotter
Texan and Lefse recording artist Alan Palomo (better known as Neon Indian) took some time to record a session with Daytrotter. All the tracks are from his full-length, Psychic Chasms -- we were a little let down there wasn't an unreleased track there, sometimes Daytrotter gets the good ones before anyone else -- but it's so nice to hear the songs we've fallen in love with in a slightly different vibe. Neon Indian is in the middle of a European tour right now, and there's no Austin dates on the schedule at the moment, but we'll be sure to let you know when that changes.
A Misspent Youth Revisited is a Holiday Well Spent: Catch Neon Indian at Stubbs Tonight
Jeans fitting a little tight today? No matter, it’s going to be a night for leggings and baggy sweaters at Stubbs, as Neon Indian serves up a heaping platter of homemade love songs to the fuzzed-out series of dream sequences known as the 80s.
Psychic Chasms was released just last month, and it already feels like a classic. The album marries 80s analog allure with up-to-the-minute dexterity of melodic layering, and Alan Palomo delivered it already broken in and ready to wear anytime you crave a little less focus, a little more misspent youth.
Fun Fun Fun Fest Previews: Neon Indian and L.A.X.
An Austin band by way of Brooklyn, Neon Indian is the elusive new project of Alan Palamo (also behind the one-man electro project Vega). The name Neon Indian itself gives due justice to the type of music Palamo produces—mystical synth noise, kooky hooks, and sensual vocals. The project started as a bunch of lo-fi recordings before the No Way Down EP was made in 2008. Full of reverb and distortion, song titles like "Should Have Taken Acid With You," add to the mystique of the project.
ACL Fest Aftershow Giveaways: !!! @ Emo's & DeVotchKa @ La Zona Rosa
Austinites sure are going to be spoilt for choice this weekend. If ten plus hours a day of live music on eight stages at Zilker Park isn’t enough, we get to pick from a plethora of mouth-watering late night gigs to satisfy our yearning ears. And since this turbulent economy has everyone pinching pennies, we’re offering our readers a chance to win tickets to two choice aftershows in town this Friday.
Music News & Notes: Twang, Browne, Neon & More
The anti-KUT league, led by former mayor Lee Cooke, are throwing a party called Twant Dang Doodle, which is supposed to 'save KUT' without embarrassing its attendees.
Capsule Reviews - Buttercup, Hearts of Animals, Neon Indian
Hey gang. For today’s capsule reviews, we’re keeping things Texan. We have the fourth full-length release from San Antonio’s pop mavens Buttercup, a new release from Alan Paloma’s psych-dance experiment Neon Indian, and an LP from the similarly homegrown aesthetics of the Houston-based Hearts of Animals.
