Yesterday's fickle weather looks like it'll stick around through the weekend: the National Weather Service has just issued a flash flood warning for Austin and much of Central Texas -- Blanco County Sheriffs are already reporting flash flooding over roads. Even more exciting, the NWS is also calling for a tornado watch until 6pm for much of Central Texas, including Travis and Williamson counties.
Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Warnings for Central Texas
South By Sucky Weather
The buzzkillers at the National Weather Service just issued a severe thunderstorm watch for almost 75 counties in Central Texas, with flash floods in Travis and Williamson Counties likely at least until 6pm. The storms are moving northeast at roughly 20 miles per hour, bringing with them the possibility of "small hail and damaging winds," plus an estimated 3 inches of total rainfall.
Central Texas Slammed By Thunderstorms, Freezing Rain
The freezing thunderstorms and errant tornados of last night have left Central Texas a sopping mess, with heavy flooding leaving people and cars stranded, and over a dozen roads closed. At least one woman is believed to have drowned in Waller Creek, while several homes and industrial buildings San Marcos were damaged by "tornadic winds" that touched down in the early morning. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning in effect...
Snowfall in Austin? Still Less Ridiculous Than New Rocky Flick
You wouldn't guess it from the near-record highs this week, but there's a slim likelihood that Central Texas will be treated to a bit of snow on Christmas Eve. The Statesman quotes meteorologist Clay Anderson of the National Weather Service as saying, "There's a 20 percent chance, but it's nothing to get too excited about at this point." Thus far, neither weather.com nor the National Weather Service's own forecast indicates any freak flurries, though Anderson...
Chicken Little Was Right
The storms that slammed Austin last night cut a sizeable swath of destruction, uprooting trees, flooding major streets (we might as well have been swimming down South Lamar last night) and knocking out power across the city.
The Statesman reports that roughly 17,000 customers remain without electricity as of 10am on Friday, with KXAN quoting Austin Energy saying that repairs may take up into nighttime.
The Austin-Travis County Emergency Conditions Information Page lists several schools closed owing to the power outage, and the following roads remain closed:

The National Weather Service is putting you on alert, Austin. There's rain coming. And wind. And hail. Really big hail. The NWS says winds of up to 80 mph can be expected. EIGHTY! Just Like the Traditional Media, We Like To FREAK OUT Whenever the First Freeze Comes
Austin commuters may have to contend with icy roads later this evening and tomorrow morning if weather forecasters are right. Word around town is that some businesses are closing early so people can get home before things get too slippery on the roads.
Local Music is Water-Resistant
As this weekend draws increasingly nearer, we've found ourselves becoming giddy with anticipation over all the awesome bands we're going to see and the parties we're going to attend - we're most excited, of course, about our "Local Music is Sexy" rock show + dance party going down at the Velvet Spade this Saturday (no cover! giveaways! hot Austin musicians!). With all our careful planning and preparations these past few weeks, the conditions for...
Riders On The Storm: Are You Prepared?
The director of the National Weather Service announced that this year's hurricane season will be a rough one. Forecasters say that the combination of warmer waters along with "low wind shear and low pressure, as well as the jet stream, favor storm formation."
In The News

Not to worry! We’re sure that by the time she reaches us, it won’t be much more exciting than the thunder storm that dashed our beer garden frolicking last Thursday. Armed And Dangerous!! It seems that a Burnett County inmate...
