The new wave takes it old school with an evening that's part movie, part Austin, and all fun and games. Let's hope nobody gets hurt. Hip Mexican joint Nueva Onda will host a free show featuring Hunky Dory and an episode of Austin Stories this Thursday (that's tomorrow) at 8pm to keep your brain entertained as your mouth snarfs San Antonio tamales and sips Shiner beer. Propose a toast to slackerdom and misfithood as you......

When we first heard about literary movie night, we naturally assumed that the film would be Hellraiser. We mean, how many other book-turned-films have so thoroughly and entertainingly explored sadomasochism and moral confusion? Not many, we think. Anyway, it's not our event, and the folks at Bookpeople decided to go with something a little lighter, which is their prerogative, we guess. Rob Marshall's Memoirs of a Geisha--based on Arthur Golden's 1997 book of the same......

We could use a stiff drink* and a good laugh. Lucky for us, and you, the Onion AV Club and Rio Rita have prescribed a sweet salve to cure our burning wounds as they present Robert Altman’s satirical snarkfest OC & Stiggs. O.C.......

The Onion's been up to tons of good stuff ever since setting up shop in Austin last winter, so we're pleased to see that they're also starting a new monthly tradition: every third Wednesday, the folks of A.V. Club Austin will host Movie Night at eastside cantina Rio Rita, where they'll be screening classic flicks. The Onion City Editor Sean O'Neal will be on-hand to introduce the films ("Provided people besides my girlfriend show......

Owing to the fire last week that destroyed most of the building housing KOOP's studios, the member-owned community radio station is being forced to relocate. At the modest downtown offices on Fifth and San Jacinto, built back in the 1930s, KOOP paid a mere $750 a month for rent. Now, strapped for cash and unable to cover relocation costs, they'll be having a slew of benefit events through the end of February. Meanwhile, the......

It started yesterday, but you still have three chances to catch the 4th Annual Out of Bounds Improv Comedy Festival. And Miniature Golf Tournament What, you say? Out of Bounds brings together some of the nation's best sketch/improv comedy groups at the Hideout Theatre on Congress Avenue, and even features a tournament of mini-golf, wherein performers compete against one another for the highly coveted, uhh, "Ridiculous Jacket".
