Misprint Magazine has kept us chuckling for many a year now and its novel ideas and columns never cease to amaze -- just the other day we caught wind of Misprint’s newest project -- the somewhat disturbing End Live Music campaign! This Friday, the beloved local publication presents the latest installment of its Beard & Moustache Competition at The Mohawk. Doors open at 9 p.m.; register by 9:45 to compete in various categories such as Best Groomed, Fiercest Chops, Ladies!, Freestyle, Sweetest Moustache, and Gnarliest Beard. A live performance by Cavedweller and DJ sets by DJ Andy (the Mouth) and DJ Huge Cock are also a part of the scheduled entertainment. We caught up with one of Misprint’s head honchos Bryan Keplesky this week for a preview of what to expect on Friday.

We can't imagine getting through the holiday season without bothering Bryan Keplesky about what he enjoyed listening to this year. As one half of the giant brain behind Misprint Magazine, Bryan has earned himself a notorious reputation as a sort of merciless rogue, drowning in a sea of irony, but as his art and design at Round Object proves, his insides are made of little more than CMYK conversion methods and copies of the Helvetica movie. Somehow amidst all this creative output, he manages to work as primary administrator at Shit My Jorts. Ask him all about it tonight at the Misprint holiday party tonight at Club DeVille. Here's what he liked in 2008:

Misprint Magazine’s “Company Holiday Party” at Club de Ville and “The Golden Arm Trio and Invincible Czars Holiday Show” at The Mohawk (both on Friday), and a “Christmas Disco Party” presented by Prototype Vintage Design at Red 7 and The Famousish’s “A Cross The Universe Xmas Party '08” (both on Saturday) all promise much merriment this weekend as holiday season events continue to dominate the options for choice activities in town this weekend.

Emo’s, as always, powers our evenings with a good amount of solid shows this weekend. Zookeeper and Zykos bring heartfelt indie-rock to the outside stage on Friday while Ume and Haunting Oboe Music take on the inside crowd with belligerent, experimental rock n’ roll.

Allen Demling has announced that he will run for election to the Place 1 seat in 2008 (the seat currently held by Lee Leffingwell, who is also running). The election is Saturday, May 10, 2008. Allen will be competing in the 2nd Annual Misprint Magazine Beard and Moustache competition at Club DeVille on Saturday, February 9th. He also has a fundraising event scheduled for February 22nd at the Scoot Inn.

The APD could adopt a more compatible attitude, one that sees violent crime on the East Side as another inevitable casualty of gentrification, one that will eventually succumb to the gradual transition. Essential to all parties accepting responsibility for these mixed-race, mixed-income neighborhoods is that transition from negative stigma includes a reduction of all forms of violence.

But beyond the miracles of bloated advertising budgets, the real victory here lies in that for the first time I can fathom, cartoons got some play off a sales method which has always been tapped for far more insidious purposes.
