What would you get if you snatched up Bob Dylan while he was sitting backstage at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963, strapped him to the rather large hood of a Chevrolet K20 pickup and drove through the deserts and ranches of the Southwest finally making your way across to the southern states and stopping for an extra long time in Tennessee? What if he soaked it all up and adopted a little more of the sounds, culture and twang? Well, he’d be a lot like Randy ‘Bag’ Reynolds and company. The only downside of Emo's Free Week is that you have to decide which shows to attend. Some ambitious folks will move between the three venues and check out bits of several shows, but that requires, well, moving, and we're not into that. We'd rather grab five drinks from the bar, stake out a spot in front of the stage and spend all our available energy hollering "raaawwwkkk and roollllll" until we either pass out......

Shearwater's back in town tonight for the penultimate stop of their summer tour, and seeing as how we were floored by their new album, Palo Santo, we're looking forward to the Emo's show: Palo Santo shows Shearwater progressing from straight-forward folk tunes to something richer and harder to pin down. A couple weeks back back, Box Mag launched Issue 2 with one of the most ... unique, and entertaining, performances we've seen in a while. The Skinny Boy Burlesque is now yours to see, too, over at the magazine's gallery (see sidebar). Local photog Mary Sledd provided comprehensive coverage, and a couple Austinist folks chipped in as well. Entertaining? No doubt. For the kiddos? Definitely not.......
