Despite the sprawl-loving Statesman's spin attempt, it is clear that the majority of Austin neighborhoods are embracing VMU zoning. Out of eighty neighborhoods given the choice to opt-out, forty-six did nothing, which apparently means the VMU zoning will be implemented as suggested by the city. Due to its rather lackluster presence, that statue has now been repealed by the UT Barbara Jordan Statue Committe. Today, they're calling for help from all of Austin--not just students--in order to gain input before the next selection process, as opposed to afterwards. Meet Lewis "Teabag" Miner, narrator of Sam Lipsyte's Home Land: Eastern Valley High School Class of 1989 alum, gifted but unemployed full-time slacker, leg-warmer fetishist. Teabag is so out of touch with his compatriots - many of whom like himself are sadly aged, flabbier versions of their high-school selves - that he's able to highlight with acidic clarity the idiosynchracies of a lackluster middle-age life. He is the electronic-age Martin Luther in suburbia, his 95 Theses no longer singularly nailed to a church door but broadcast ad infinitum online in a succession of postings to the Eastern Valley High School Alumni website.
